Heartland have explained themselves, quite well actuslly in a just released press statement. You would be more aware, Russell, than I would ever be of the need to get ones head around spin in some news sources (in this case the NZ Herald). Never let the facts get in the way of a good story...the old cliche. Heartland have issued a repsonse to Angela Gregory's story which appears very reasonable. I suggest it be read before jumping all over them.

I guess it was inevitable that the Heartland Institute was mentioned and used as an example of 'climate sceptics gone mad'. Don't, however, let that get in the way of good argument and good facts. All in short supply in this climate debate. Let's not forget that there is unsettled science on both sides of the argument (and lies and distorted truth for that matter). Furthermore, in regard to Jim Salinger, he co-authored a study on the glaciers in the South Island and found that while some were retreating, others were increasing. Perhaps these are the views that Heartland are referring to? Anyone know?

Good grief Russell. Putting words into the mouths of the National Party even before they are uttered?. You are becoming prophetic. Anyway, National will just bluster and try not to come up with a policy anyway; as is their norm lately.

Well done and very clever. But I wonder why this blog site is getting so 'exercised' about Ian's book. Let it be. If it's rubbish, then it will self-destruct anyway.

Good show Russell. Shame that Mark Sainsbury couldn't be quiet for a minute. (You might have to be a bit more pushy with people like Mark?). Would have liked to hear more from the lecturer guy (Graham Reid?)

Business is flocking to the global warming scenario in droves, but we shouldn't think that that is because they think it's caused by man's environmental mismanagement. They only support it becasue it's in their own self-interest to do so...much like our politicians.

Call me suspicious, but would the PM have 'waded' into the debate if the Party faithful hadn't been caught out publicly. I guess that's a little unfair, but my trust levels are at an all time low.

Oh, dear...global warming/change/volatility...here we go.
This wouldn't be the first time in history where using fear as a weapon for mass change has been tried. I also dislike the retoric from Global Warming subscribers that attempt to demomise any science and scientist that provide facts differring from their point of view. To me there is an obvious movement out there, highjacked by neo-marxists to use this fear as a control mechanism. I mean, the carbon credit system has to be the worst joke played on humanity. Al Gore is simply losing the debate and needs to up the anti in this film.

Being a little to the 'right' myself, I have been a little disappointed in John Key's approach to major topics such as 'global warming' and the recent 'Anit-smacking' Bill. There will come a time soon when he needs to stop being 'all things to all men' and actually believe in something that people can grab hold of. If National carrys on like this, it makes people, with simlar views to mine, forced to look at parties like ACT...hmmm.

A $300 mortgage not large! Phew, I'm not so bad after all. I must admit to being a little 'spooked' by the latest instability in global markets. The major point for me is the amount of USD that can be simply printed to control the credit crisis. These dollars simply water down the value of the US economy because they are not backed by an increase in value. Something has to give soon. I am seriously looking into commodities (gold,silver) for a diversifed investment. History shows this to be the safest way to go.
