  • Hard News: So far from trivial,

Good article Russell, and good discussion here. This is such an awful story on so many levels and I think it has been dealt with in several areas of the media inappropriately.

As soon as the story broke TVNZ should have had him off the air. If they new about this when it happened they should have reported it the police. There news team choose to deliberately incriminate Dairy owners selling solvents but leave this guy in front of the biggest audience for any NZ TV show every night of the week. A good message it does not send.

Also TV3 News need to shape up. I usually watch 3 news but was disgusted enough by their strange gloating over this issue the other night to go back to the Food channel. Seriously guys, we can see your trying to not smile. I don't know, maybe I'm projecting but it felt weird. It felt wrong.

Whats more the Tui billboards once again prove to be the bad taste barometer of our Nation.

    bad, all bad.

  • Hard News: Breaking up the Band,

Yeah Carter was awful in the first half.... but surely Carlos Spencer had worst periods than that (the most inconsistant All Black ever? ...don't kill me yee Aucklanders, you know he was arse).

I was very pleased with the entire forward pack, and in the wet that is all one can judge a team on really.

I never thought Nonu would make it back in the ABs. However he was pretty bloody good I thought. He seemed to make a lot of tackles and he slid 5 metres to score with 3 people trying to stop him. If your strong enough to out slide people, ummm... I don't have a point there.

Pretty strange to end up with an all Hurricanes front row after twenty minutes. They did well but I certainly hope Woodcock is back in shape for the tri-nations.

...anyway much more interesting than yet more debate over the Lange govt.

i was told by my eye doctor at the age of 4 that i would never be able to fly a plane. For some reason as a young child I thought that was really great. I was honestly overjoyed that I was special enough to not be a pilot, where as all the other 20/20 visioners at kindy were doomed to life of international travel at the helm of a DC10.

i mean 'wouldn't' Ben Howe be great.

I think ben is pretty much the expert on NZ music of the last ten years. He should be the next PM.

  • Hard News: Bean-Counting the Beat,

The net cant generate that income to feedback to NZoA or police copyright so i cant see NZoA, APRa/RIANZ biting the hand that feeds them.

NZONAIR don't get any money from radio so that is moot point. APRA and RIANZ must both be very interested in the net at the moment. In fact Last Fm are trying to work an international royalty scheme for online radio at the moment. Its very confusing thoough!

BTW who is cheap hip and young enough to qualify for indy input to NZoA ? I'd say mikee from loop but i wouldn't trust that dodgy lil fucker anymore than i do BS to make decisions solely on merit and besides he would have an obvious vested interest in his own roster plus he's from welli ...hehe

Well a label manager of any indie would have obvious bias (but would Ben Howe be great!). I think it would be best to create a revolving cast of indy know it alls to spread the money to different circles. Say Andrew from cheese on toast, Sir-vere, blink, jason rock pig, errr Gemma Gracewood!

I don't see who gets selected for video funding as being the major issue anyway. What needs to addressed is the responsibility of the radio networks to re-inject ad revenue back into NZ culture.

If there was a say 20% quota of NZ content of ALL radio the shift of power would be instant and programmers would be desperate for NZONAIR to provide them with content.
