A very, very pleasant surprise that new L.E.D.s album. Yah !

Looking forward to seeing it. Good luck with it all, Russell.

I may be wrong, but I think I saw 3 The Hard Way in early '94 at the first NZ Big Day Out. Their name's certainly on the posters for it.
I took a pic of a rap act on the stage behind the grandstand and IIRC there weren't any other rap acts at that BDo, so I assume it's them.
I was utterly unaware they had such a complex story to their subsequent existence.
BTW, are you going to respond to Sweetman having a crack at you in his blog today, Russell ?

I remember one of my primary school teachers in the mid '70s reading one of her books to us, then saying she'd been through school herself with Mahy. Even then she was the one to read if you were a kid.

My money's on Peter Dunne to be the first politician to try to make political capital of out this.
(Woo-hoo ! This is my first post on PA in a few months after my PC died and I've splashed out on a laptop. It's nice to be back).

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Oasis and U2 really bug me.

I grew up in Gisborne. I've crossed paths with a lot of Tuhoe people and frequently holidayed at Waikaremoana back then. I think I've got an ok understanding of what the Tuhoe are like compared to a lot of other people including the media and the cops.
When these raids occurred I thought at the time that the cops had gotten completely the wrong idea of what was happening in Urewera. In effect what was happening was a few guys playing "cop 'n' robbers". They were acting the part, but there was no way it was anything serious. Sure, they might've said things, but there was no way they were actually going to do anything.

I think David Shearer needs media training and a lot of it, ASAP.
He is utterly woeful at answering questions from the media. He is jittery, hesitant, muddled, indecisive and just seems unable to quickly articulate a coherent answer.
It makes him look very bad on TV and is a turn-off to potential voters.
Also, what the hell was he thinking, using National's "brighter future" slogan twice today ?
He realy, really needs to see someone like Brian Edwards for advice on how to deal with this.
He is obviously an intelligent, capable man, but he is letting himself and Labour down by his very bad, ineffectual handling of questions. A lot of these questions are basic, straightforward and predictable. All the other senior Labour MPs cane do it, Shearer must learn fast ho to do so as well.

The sound / acoustics issues and quality of ther gigs aside, you lot in Auckland and Wellington should just quit whining and just be greatful these bands make it to your cities.
I don't expect big names to come to Dunedin and at best only a few of them bother to play Christchurch, so stop your nit-picking and just be thankful, ok ?

The harsh reality is that New Order are now in Rolling Stones territory: people go to see them because they were once great, as opposed to still being great.
