Hard News: Criminalising Journalism, in reply to
What I do not understand is why we should have to endure the political barrow-pushers as "analysts". A second-string failed candidate like Paul Henry (who was only ever a candidate because of name recognition) beggars belief as a commentator. And he's such an obnoxious man. I'll turn the sound off, watch the numbers and sit next to an old Press Gallery hack.

I see Paul Henry surfaced again on the TV3 panel after the leaders’ debate, and will apparently grace them with his presence on election night
Let's run a PA vote on the channels' proposed panels. Henry is the most revolting man, so that rules out TV3 for me. Shame because I like John Campbell.

an inexplicably influential lobby group that purports to speak for those "50 and over"
Fuck, do they? I'm 51. Those people have been life-long bigots and "all right for some" types who think that the patina of age gives their vile opinions some credibility. I plan to stay a human until I die.

I wonder what big bucket of effluent the Nats will come out with tomorrow or Thursday? Just saying that's an obvious next move. They are looking increasingly like they know the govern-alone prize has slipped away in the last week and the long-haul strategy for the second term seemed to have been predicated on having an absolute majority. I reckon Key had seen some bad polling yesterday -- in the debate in repose he looked like he'd eaten a dead rat and was never able fire up his schmoozer.
Fascinating the way this election is playing out, and although I don't warm to Phil Goff he is showing the benefit of a lifetime's training in Labour Party internal politics.

Collapse of Act and possibly Peter Dunne will be the deciders. More Greens are voting now they have reached the reproducing and mortgage years; it's a demographic change of voting patterns not a policy-driven change, though Russell Norman has turned around the red-green hue to a more fashionable lime.

The film is well worth it. Compelling, moving, funny, elegaic, sad, emotional with the good feelings there too. Gerard Smyth has done a fine job; it's a tribute to his deep respect for individuals and goodness of heart, and a great editing job. I worried that the movie would come too soon for most people ( including me given that I vomited after watching some of the rough footage in March/April), but I came away feeling up rather than down, and feeling has stayed since the screening on Wednesday. I need to see it again a time or two to take it all in.

Senior Council reps tell the #eqnz Inquiry they can’t enforce quake-strengthening,
Interesting one that; I am told there are many many buildings well under code that are on the leasing-out market, particularly in the less-affected north and west of the city. One that I know of has been found to be less than 33 percent of the code. What do I take from that? If you don't think a building is safe, it probably isn't, even with no major damage evident. And that a lot of under-code buildings have been quickly tenanted because they are in the "safe" parts of Christchurch.

Lovely work Joe. Who are the two women in the foreground of that shot?
