Seen today in the park. More on my facebook site.

Holy crap, Gudrun! I like the angry hare, too. :-)

    I NEED AN SLR.

Yeah, to echo Jackson and Sofie: not necessarily! The better digital compacts blur the old distinction between SLR and compact. And an SLR is bulky to carry and you can waste a lot of time getting it in and out of your bag and changing lenses. Or miss a shot because you’ve left it at home!

In addition, I’ve noticed people react differently to being photographed with an SLR and a compact; as soon as you cover your face with your camera, they tense up. Compacts that you hold down at chest level are much less intrusive and intimidating.

we were just discussing your Grasshopper and considered that it may have been very young and had not fully developed it’s exoskeleton and would have been rather vulnerable but also rather flexible.

Could well be, Sofie! I was trying to imagine how all the plates of the exoskeleton might articulate so it could bend like that, but it is a pretty impressive curve! Glad y'all like it.

this example of chronophotography. Clever stuff.

Yes, I was admiring that earlier on Smithsonian, and wondering if the image blending would be hard to do. It's a stunning result, and the whole is much more interesting than any of its individual parts.

Bug yoga. I'd just freed this grasshopper from a cobweb and I think it was cleaning off the spider silk. Who knew they were so flexible?!

    Monster in a box?

I think of some poor bugger
    trying to read it!

Oh, go on! We'd all read it avidly, you know.

I've put Kraken on reserve at the library. :-)

    Noctilucent appeal

Tips for seeing noctilucent clouds, here. And more images.

A friend living in Northern Scotland for several years said he saw them a number of times. And did he take a single photo?? No!

I'd like to see nacreous clouds even more.

    a slaked thirst?

;-) Not really, Ian! Long as the book was, I wished it was longer....that guy's such a genius!! (speaking of which, have you ever thought of writing a novel?)
