Hard News: Nobody wanted #EQNZ for Christmas, in reply to
does it mean the "A team" no longer have a majority?
No, because Beck replaces a prominent B team member. But he is highly skilled at bridge-building and has a powerful intellect -- can operate on many levels. Parker and Marryatt will be taking note of the result.

Very low, even for local body elections, 15.3% down on 2010. Ward is pretty trashed, so many will not even be living there now. I'm intrigued that Linda Stewart, chair of the ward community board, got hammered: she came third with 1473, less than one-third of Beck's 4800. Guess voters realise that "being a local" is no guarantee of being an effective representative.

Good. An intelligent addition to the council table; I don't always agree with Peter Beck but I have respect for him.

Journalists never were any good at maths; they were Good At English at school. And incredibly few even care or see it as a lack. in vital skills. That's why stupid stories like this go unchallenged through the editorial system and end up in print. One would think the editor could do numbers though. Sheesh.

There's a specific formal role of Opposition, which is different from opposition. And it does fall on the Labour Party
As the largest opposition bloc? What would happen if a grouping of opposition parties got together post-election -- sort of like tha government forming a coalition -- and proclaimed themselves some sort of alliance and then became the largest bloc?
