Of course one could be trite (I know I'm going to) and point out that the law only applies to paid for speech

As I think I've mentioned here before I ran off and lived in the US for 20 years - I've seen first hand how corrosive money is in politics - in general I'm very much in favour of limiting it's effect and making its sources as open as possible
I see politics as a marketplace of ideas - I don't think we should be in a position where one idea has an advantage just because it has more money behind it - we should be choosing between those ideas on their merits instead

I'm kind of bemused by all this gnashing of teeth on the electoral financing issues - it's a new law - there's likely to be a whole bunch of similar cases (I heard mention of a Nat party van paid for by the taxpayers with a similar paint job) until people start getting it right
It doesn't take much for someone to take a sharpie and write the appropriate disclaimer on a sign be it on a car or a hoarding - I kind of think that rather than playing 'gotcha' is just asking for the other guys to come after you (I do wonder if Labour is saving up their complaints until later in the year when it will have more effect)
What they should have done is created a phase in period (maybe through June) in which time so long as things were put right quickly only wrists would be slapped

Nick - I have a frequent flier card with United - it's free and I can clock up mileage on all my AirNZ travel (even though I live in NZ) - only downside is that while I can book tickets on my mileage I can't seem to do upgrades on AirNZ across the pacific

yeah the screens on AitNZ cattle class suck - I'm not tall, but I do have bifocals - the screens plain don't work if the person in front leans back - there's nowhere I can put my head where I can focus on the screen and that doesn't involve extreme neck pain
-
I always take my noise cancelling headphones on long flights - they basically turn loud engine whine into gentle white noise - I unplug them but leave them turned on when I want to sleep - I'm not sure how one turns up noise cancelling headphones (or rather the noise cancelling bit)
-
I think AirNZ do in biz class too - just not for the plebs (and their chainsaws)
-
from a technical poiint of view AC power to seats on an aircraft is a real nightmare - the customer can plug ANYTHING in - and fires are such pesky things
-
well anything has to be better - I've seen people stare at window's blue screens of death for the entire trip across the Pacific
While I suspect the ipod dock is to let you charge and maybe to screen your own movies wouldn't it be cool if they took the radical step of simply providing a simple standard headphone jack? so we can plug in our own noise cancelling headphones or comfortable earbuds rather than having to fiddle with hard to find adapters that keep falling out

every one I've talked to today about the possibility of Comalco shutting down today responded with something like "you know that might not be a bad thing "
I think we should call their bluff
