I swear I saw Murray Horton ascending in the Rapture on this morning's commute through Addington.

the Shades Emporium. Which was saved, or so I’d thought. It had been moved by developer Antony Gough to the middle of the same block with the buyer expected it moved ‘in reasonable time’ to a new location ex-CBD. Well that hasn’t happened and now, since the WC cricket started, it’s trapped behind the extended the tram circuit;
Oh no. (Should have been called Shades, not Shand's.)

Today we went to the ceremonies to honour the legendary Duke Kahanamoku who 100 years ago at New Brighton showed Kiwis how to surf. February 24, 1915, The Duke was on his board at Brighton, and today crowds of surfers, the Duke’s relatives, the Mayor, Sir Tipene O’Regan, and MP Poto Williams all gathered to celebrate the man and the deeper cultural links with Hawaii.
It was one of the most connected times I have experienced at Brighton: everyone united by the common love of the Pacific Ocean.
(Soz about the quality: didn’t even think of taking pix so didn’t take the big camera.)

And there's more. John McCrone dissects the latest chapter of the land and repair issues facing thousands of us. http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/christchurch-earthquake-2011/66483145/Land-settlements-put-EQC-between-a-rock-and-a-hard-place
So much information to absorb and to make decisions on for the land aspect alone; then will be the house hoo-hah. We're fortunate not to have to stress about it: house is liveable though well dented. Having two teenage sons, I'm thinking of it as a student flat with comfortable furniture and a garden to love.
Unexpected quake benefits include Christchurch becoming op-shoppers' paradise as people clear out before the builders arrive. A few weeks ago I swapped a few kilos of peaches from our tree for a large, heavy-duty glasshouse that needed to be taken away. Just what I have wanted for years :-)

Speaking of taxidermy, did you ever see the Pleasant Point stuffery shop window? I lost my 80s photos of it unfortunately.
