Jackie, not complaining about Peter Leitch being the subject, if we do have to have such a programme. Was it Sonia Davies who rmentioned how embarrassing it all was to be the subject of TIYL? Many of the good and generous really dislike the spotlight.
I liked the way that stroppy young disabled woman, who with her brother had been brought in to fill the narrative of the 'poor tragic sufferers' raised up by the beneficience of the subject, refused to pay the role, telling PH that they didn't have a disease and weren't contagious, and how embarrassed she was the handsome sportsman had been made to kiss her.

Paul Holmes is hosting 'This is your life' in place of Paul Henry who was lined up to do it. The subject is that supposed working class hero, friend of Helen Clark, champion of rugby league etc - the Mad Butcher. So who is lined up as his long lost best friend? Someone who really needs another chance to smile and joke on prime time after that little blip on Breakfast last Monday - the PM. How media managed can you get?

Jackie, somebody this morning (Q and A? ) said there were two right wing Maori on the new supercity board, and two Pasifica - one centre one left). Don't know who they are though.
By the way Louisa Wall was very impressive on the Q and A panel this morning and mentioned she has her eye on Manurewa when George Hawkins quits. She managed to derail the men including Paul Holmes.

I do like the STV voting system. Some candidates came through after 15 counting iterations (is that how you describe it?). And it only took the computer a few hours. Makes it feel as if some of your choices counted for something.

Where are the most reliable and quickest results?

When I went to my first Plunket meeting I was horrified that everyone was addressed as Mrs.. . This was the 1980s. I thought that practice had disappeared decades earlier when it was common for people to refer to even people they knew as Mr and Mrs [husband's first name, husband's surname].
As the only non-Mrs in the room I never went back. -
Got my (signed) copy of Blue Smoke at the crowded Wellington launch tonight. Yes, it is a beautiful production, and made even better by an extensive index.

Just a question for those with legal brains. In regions like Wellington where the regional council voting uses FPP while the other ballots are STV - if someone writes numbers in the boxes beside an allowable number of candidates instead of strict ticks or crosses, will they be counted as valid votes?

I've been married, widowed, separated, divorced, single and in a LAT (Living Apart Together) relationship. So for surveys I just answer yes.
However, one of the sensible things I did in all of this was to give my children my surname, which has saved a lot of confusion over the years..

I thought that was quite a heartening poll. I thought the no vote would be much higher as that is the group who are having their comfortable sense of the world challenged by this huge negative public reaction to PH, and so are motivated to respond to such polls.
They are probably the same group of people who think it is OK to hit children, and would vote to bring corporal punishment back into schools, were they asked.
