My condolences to Finn's friends and family.

And a 19-min 'Sister Ray' ...
Sure, it's rather short, but it's better than nothng.

And then 3410 showed the depths of his/her wit
Hardly.

And the playing on those early, 2 hit singles and a bunch of filler albums, ain't too hot, I agree.
Hey, I know "five albums" kind of overstates it a bit. ;)

The Beach Boys didn't play on their records until 1967 (although Brian did create them)
Oh, come on! They played all instuments (though mostly not very well) on pretty much all of their first five albums ('62-'64). It was only about late '64 through mid-'67 that the Wrecking Crew handled almost all of the studio playing.
That said, I certainly agree with your general thesis regarding the "authenticity" of Pop and Rock; it's show business.
FYI, Milli Vanilli won the 1990 Best New Artist Grammy over Tone Loc, Soul II Soul, Indigo Girls and Neneh Cherry.
It makes sense if you remember that the Grammies are not music awards, but music industry awards. Hence "Best New Artist" means something like "most likely to generate whale-sized revenues in the coming financial year".

I find it hard to see banks as villains. I would not have a property if it was not for them.
Nonsense. That only applies if borrowing is unavailable to you, but available to everyone else. Without banks housing price inflation would not have been artificially stoked by those who have the most to gain. The banks decide how much they will lend and, in a market of limited supply, that determines the cost of housing.

My current peeve about the Listener: It doesn't even look like New Zealand any more. God damned Getty images on every page. I mean, why bother? Might as well just sell more ad space; the graphic content would be little different.
Housing Affordability: The biggest villain - and the one that never gets mentioned - is the banks. They are the ones who've created the mortgage arms race of recent decades, lending $400k where just 20 years ago $60k would've done the trick. Has no one else noticed that: a) banks are entirely in charge of how much money people may spend on a house, and b) it is absolutely in their interest to lend as much as possible, or am I missing something? -
Speaking of music, there's a classic programming goof on EMI's latest as-seen-on-TV hits collection. The 2CD set is entitled "Happy Songs", yet includes ABBA's The Winner Takes It All, widely considered one of the saddest songs in the history of Pop.
Also, can someone identify TV2's latest theme song? -
"Can't tig your master."

In the grand tradition of screwy names for hairdressers, there is one such establishment located in the Valley Rd. (Mt. Eden) shopping precinct, which goes by the unlikely moniker, The Sharing Shed (sic).
