I'll read the Listener editorial at the checkout, like those old ads. Their editorial position on climate change was the main reason I didn't renew my sub after 20+ years, and I think I'll wait a bit to see how Black, Ralston, Young, etc go on the topic before i think of renewing again.

My new conspiracy theory after listening to Rodney grandstanding about the ETS - ACT's role this term will be to keep the things about MMP that people seem to dislike most about it - "tail-wagging", etc - in public view so the anti MMP vote prevails in the the 2011 referendum. It wouldn't do to show MMP actually working as it should!
ACT supports MMP in theory, but I bet they support right wing hegemony more, and would be happy to be subsumed into National and pull it rightwards.

As one of those mushroom/billboard planters, I agree with Craig. The vandalism is mindless and dispiriting.

Thank you so much, Julie, it was time spent spinning straw into gold. Wonderful comments too.
I'm too shy to be one of the women's XV but I'm cheering you on from the sidelines.

The more I read of Chris Trotter's blog, the more I wonder if he is turning into the Christopher Hitchens of New Zealand politics.

Thanks so much for letting us know that Denis Welch has a blog. Bookmarked immediately!

Actually, it gets worse. The WaPo has discovered that Scheunemann is still billing the Georgians, via his two-man company, even as he takes McCain's dollar for "advice". Astonishing, but by recent standards, sadly not surprising.
Has anyone suggested in commentary anywhere that a major driver for US "encouragement" for the first Georgian action could be to keep the US pre-election focus on foreign affairs, an area where McCain has an inexplicable (to me) advantage over Obama? With a diversion from the messy Middle East to reignite old cold war associations.

To say "I know how you feel" would be an understatement.
They did finally show the last 11 k or so, uncut, and uninterrupted about 11pm, but by then we'd got the result both from our daughter in Sydney - watching the whole thing on public tv - and a check on the Guardian webpage.
So, though it was a great finish it had none of the electricity of Cancellara coming from nowhere and sweeping up Rogers and the Russian to the front in those last moments in the men's.
