It was like the fucking Nuremberg rally!"
Sometimes we really need a “like” button here on PAS!
Re: hare krishnas: I’ve certainly been wildly irritated by some of their proselytisers on the street, especially when I’ve had places to be and they’ve been all determinedly serene at me.
But they have my eternal gratitude for the amazingly wonderful food they dish up, either free or for a nominal charge. For years when I was a poor student I ate their $3 all-you-can-eat lunches, of a tasty vegetable curry and rice, plus halva for pudding. This and all their Food for Life initiatives I think are fantastic. I wish all religious groups had such a practical attitude to helping people.

Thank you for this sentence Russell. Not many smiles in this thread but that's one. :-)

Well done you and your garden Hebe!
BTW I tracked down that native planting guide I was telling you about. It divides greater Chch into soil-type zones and native ecosystems. The navigation is a little odd, but you can click the main map for more detailed maps (which each have a magnifier when you mouseover), and if you click on any ecosystem it takes you to a list of plants that belong there. My ex and I planted our garden based on this guide.
Edit: I also found this pdf from the council on Chch landforms and history. Fascinating for some of us. :-)

Some of these are also very fine.

a better range of “ethnic” (guess what that’s code for) models for a while
Vogue Italia did a whole issue with only black models back in 2008. As Jezebel notes, that wasn’t including the ads.
Ian: I too remember Burda though I was too flummoxed by the layered outlines to cut out any of the patterns! I knew a few people who did, though. Frill seekers, indeed. ;-)

I think these beauty/sex/fashion magazines all work the same way, as Russell mentioned earlier.
If personal grooming, getting dressed, and having sex can be made subject to rules which are complicated, ritualised, and certain to change…then you have a captive market. The more anxious and insecure we are, the more products we’ll buy, and the more advice we’ll want.
Heaven forbid we treat sex partners as people, much like ourselves, who can tell us what they like and what they want, and listen when we tell them what we like and what we want.
No, we have to already know what any partner wants, in any context, or we have to guess it based on some kind of baloney statistic.
[And do they know what we want? That doesn’t often get mentioned. Except that if we’re not having a good enough time, then it must somehow be our fault, and we need more advice.]My advice: forget doing figure-eights with your tongue, spit out the mango, and use your mouth to talk to your partner.
