Priorities eh. Ruth Dyson wants rebuilt homes exempted from planning regulations to improve Chch's woeful smog.
Good on Ruth. I'm for every man and woman's right to have a burner in the south. More people die as a result of cold mouldy houses here than from woodsmoke from logburners (the coal ban and open fire ban has cleaned up the air hugely).

Re Peter Ellis: I knew a child in the "maybe" basket. The parents believed the abuse had happened based on some behaviours exhibited by the child but had no other evidence. It seemed convincing until a close mutual friend told me the elder sibling of the child had exhibited the exact same behaviours a few years before at the same age (and no Ellis in sight). Go figure.
Re Scott Watson: I always thought he'd done it in an alcoholic blackout and genuinely couldn't remember.

That's the part of the National Party schtick that incenses me the most: the refusal to engage and deflection is a PR ploy got down to an artform by the Key government and its parts. Refusal to show up, refuse to engage, refusal to acknowledge there is a problem by saying there is no problem despite evidence.
