Govt to change policy on medicinal cannabis
The Government will announce tomorrow that it is removing a significant hurdle to getting access to medicinal cannabis in New Zealand.
It is understood doctors will be given the right to approve patients' requests for cannabis products, rather than Government ministers.

MEDIA CYNICISM - A Case Study, in reply to
Their robot needs reprogrammed – the drivelwriter is turned up too high.
I received identical web links yesterday from a new signup on a forum I operate. The IP traced to India. It'll be one of those "buy 1,000 links for $100" jobs. They're a minor nuisance.

MEDIA CYNICISM - A Case Study, in reply to
How interesting. A resurrected 10 year old post. And the reply is….strange.
Strange and incomprehensible. Because it's a troll promoting a UK "assignment writing" (cheating on exams) service via its website link. I expect Russell will nix it before long.

And a nice spoof on Trump and his rich white friends signing away women’s rights.
I'm glad I'm not American.

I have to confess to being a little Trumped-out, like most people here I’m sure. While there’s something compulsive about watching a former empire being demolished in such a public manner, otherwise interesting stories can get lost in the maelstrom of Trump’s daily outbursts. Here’s a couple which stood out for me.
We’ve heard the stories of Trump stiffing contractors but we assumed he’d more or less stop that when he got the top job. But nope. The electrical contractors who worked “nonstop” to get Trump’s new Washington hotel ready for a televised campaign stop in September are still owed over two million dollars. The Trump organisation has offered them a third of that amount. Leopard… spots…
Here’s an excellent piece from Google engineer Yonatan Zunger asking if the muslim ban is effectively a trial run for a coup.
A couple of interesting images to follow.

Trump has chucked out the TPP. While the Nats are making desperate squeaky noises about trying to revive the deal with the other partners, so much of the document was written by and for the benefit of US corporates that the thing is basically dead in the water. That's a good thing.
I believe that Key's government passed a number of laws in anticipation of the TPP being ratified. Things like copyright and extended protection for biologics.
I'd like to know exactly which of our laws fit this category, and if they will be rolled back. And if not, why not.

Speaker: Confessions of an Uber Driver…, in reply to
Meanwhile in the US Uber has paid $20m to settle claims it misled drivers over how much they would earn.
The FTC alleged that most Uber drivers were earning far less in 18 major US cities than Uber published online. Regulators also asserted that drivers wound up paying substantially more to lease cars than the company had claimed.
