  • Hard News: Where nature may win, in reply to 3410,

you might think paying attention to someone like Campbell is a prerequiste to having an opinion on this, I tend to think that the people worth listening to are those who spend a large part of their life, often risking their life, invloved in these rescue missions.

The spokesperson for the mines rescue team says it's too unsafe to go into the mine. He probably doesn't get paid as much as Campbell.

Having another look at the video, the piece of cloth indicates at first a steady flow into the mine, then no flow then a brief inflow followed by the explosive outflow followed by a steady inflow.

I can come up with one possible scenario explaining that. I’m a little puzzled that Peter Whittall thought that piece of cloth was incidental, maybe so much else on his mind.

Why not just watch it before you comment?

because I place more faith in a team of people who train for this sort of thing, who are actually there making difficult decisions and facing the trauma of possible consequences rather than the perpetually self-important likes of Campbell who faces no consequences for being a complete arsehole.

I suppose it should be noted, for anyone who missed the first segment of Campbell, that one of the miners’ families is now asking for Knowles to be replaced.

On Campbell? Never too early for a witch hunt. Thanks TV3

I'm trying to work out if the flow indicator at the mine entrance indicating no flow just prior to the explosion reaching the entrance would be due just to the explosion or from the vetilation stopping working just prior to the explosion.

I would also add that I really don’t know how useful it is for people to be adding to the families’ frustrations by egging on the “why haven’t they got down there yet” line of inquiry.

I think if the mining rescue team - made up of miners - thought the risk was not that great then nothing would be able to hold them back. The Police are acting on advice from people who have conisderable experience and knowledge.

I thought Little did well, as did Key and Goff. The Police and the rescue team as a whole have also done well. I haven't been impressed with commentators such as Brian Edwards who know nothing about any of this but are convinced of the ineptitude of the those invloved and are so keen to volunteer the lives of the rescue workers on the basis ot their own ignorace.

he had Fergie following on a fleet refueler,

permission to make some inappropriate jokes, Sir.

I've found the English royals to be quite entaining and the thought of GB without the present queen a bit sad.

It's an intersting phenomenon though. I've wondered at times whether it would have been possible to transition from tribal society - where many families rule - to democracy - where we try and keep famlies under control - via Monarchy - where at least it's just one family making all the rules.

  • Hard News: Moving targets,

Why are a New Zealand MP and former PM cooperating with Yang rather than Preest?

why does anyone get conned? Yang is probably a very smooth talker.

I think initially the Wongs saw themselves as comming to the assistance of a NZ business in trouble. But then they set things up with Yang - not a good move. But it does suggest we in NZ need to be cautious doing business in China, well anywhere I suppose.

I'm for free trade agreements and thought that one of the many benefits of Asian immigration was how that could help NZ businesses develop in Asian markets. But clearly things can go wrong.

I'm probably being overly generous towards Pansy Wong but I'm a bit of a stickler for following lines of evidence in the net to see where they end up. At the moment the piece of evidence Hodgson has produced is a partially translated item from a govt web-site with no indicattion of who wrote it, for what purpose and based on what information.

It could be that Wong traded on her position. It cold be that Yang mislead the local govt. It could be the local govt just guilded the lily. it's a long way from proving anything.

  • Hard News: Moving targets, in reply to Sacha,

It's just my impression regarding Wong, inept rather than corrupt, and at the moment Goff has sent in Hodgsn and Mallard to throw around a whole lot of mud to see if anything sticks. I don't like that sort of politics.
