I like Peter Montgomery too - he is so openly keen, supportive and enthusiastic. Laying it on or not.
I also like Peter Williams - and I suspect the paper stuff was part of the press pack - there'd be too much information to have open on seven different TV screens, whereas 7 bits of paper can be neatly (or messily) arranged on a desk. And scribbled on. And dog-eared, and piled up.
And I like medal ceremonies. Boo hiss that we haven't seen them - I loved watching the gymnastics at LA when Mary-Lou Retton won the all-around even though Ekaterina Czabo was arguably the better gymnast (and went on to win 3 of the 4 apparatus golds and got 3rd in the other one)

t one point I suggested we could have a drinking game every time Toni asked a question involving the use of the verb 'feel'
She's just done a dreadful interview with Moss Burmester. I think she used "feel" 3 times in one sentence.
It was, perhaps, the worst interview I've seen of a swimmer mid competition, unless undermining a swimmer's confidence is the aim of the interview.

Has there been any gymnastics on TVNZ free to air?
It's a favourite event of the olympics for me (I love the swimming too) and I hadn't even realised it was on - there seems to be no TVNZ coverage for an event which has been an Olympic highlight since Olga Korbut.
Is this because that they bought the Olympics with NZ on Air funding so we can only see NZ participants?
-
Grrr.
Is anyone else frustrated that they used "NZ on Air" funding to bring us much worse coverage than we'd have had had Sky got the Olympics?
I bet if Sky had it we'd have a choice of Olympics on at least 2, probably 3 or 4 sport channels.
Grrr again.
I'd rather have more home-grown drama and comedy, and Olympics on Sky.

I've heard of lecturers setting assignments of either writing a Wikipedia page, or correcting an error.
It has the plus of illustrating the potential unreliability of Wikipedia.

oops, a balanced view..typing gremlins strike again.

They repeatedly had no defensive player to the right-hand side of the ruck, and the halfback snuck through again and again.
Being an Andy Ellis fan, I put it down to missing Richie, Brad and Ali. Too many Crusaders out of action :-) (how do you do that tongue-in-cheek smiley?)
It's great to get a balanced. Losing to the world's best side by 2 points, almost getting a drop goal. Tests don't come any closer, and we had several key players out.
Let's face it, a second, third, or fourth string NZ team can still hold its own with any of the big sides and beat all the small ones)
BTW, in my view, NZ would be stupid to pick overseas-based players. It would eviscerate the Super 14 and NPC. And one of our best exports is rugby players. Their market value is higher overseas for having been in the All Blacks.
That said, I'd like to see a game between the overseas-based All Blacks and the NZ resident ones. Not too shabby a team there. They'd probably be playing in Hong Kong though.

describing hospital passes as "average
I think average rugby is like the trend in coffee naming. Heaven forbid that anyone sold anyone something "small" so the smallest sizes are instead called "tall" or "regular".

If they did know and didn't do that, then what does that tell us about them?
Perhaps that they are part of the PR industry? I don't read those columns myself (not being an Aucklander) so can't really comment.
One thing I do find amusing is that in his days in Auckland Ali Williams was the hellraiser who got sent home from a tour for drinking.
A season in Christchurch flatting with Richie McCaw sees him as the knight in shining armour wading in to break up fights on the strip.
What that says about either city, is anyone's guess. Ali rehabilitated by Robbie's and Richie's good influence, or Christchurch more hell-raising than Auckland.
What I have thought for a while that s that if anyone does a modern-day remake of Henry V (like the BBC did of Much Ado, Taming of the Shrew and so forth), then Ali is a modern-day Prince Hal.

Oops, sorry got my html mixed up there.
