what is the magic that gets fringe ideas into the mainstream ?
Fear or greed?

To ease my jaded soul can you think of courageous actions by governments in recent history approaching the arc of what "Slarty" is throwing out to us.
Now you're putting me on the spot : )
There was plenty of boldness, vision and consequence to the Lange government. Perhaps, post-MMP, the boldness is more likely to be found on the fringe. -
I am just not sure how much radical change is actually driven by government or prime ministers.
His example of the New Deal was a pretty good one, I thought.

Paul, I take it that tax-exempt income you're referring to is church income rather than the personal income of Brian Tamaki? My understanding, and what I believe was the case that Matthew set out earlier, is that no-one (save the Governor-General?) is exempt from tax on personal income?
(And the point I was raising in my post: is this a gift or is it personal income? And is it therefore taxable or not?)
-
No gripe. I was just tickled that they gave it that tag. And then I thought: well maybe it is.

Thanks for that Matthew. I meant to say, but see now that I haven't, that for all I know, he may well be declaring it as income. However if he isn't, that case law, as you say, gives the IRD a pretty good foundation to work on.

I'll thank you not to bring your dour Finnish obscurantism into the discussion. Feel free to keep cussing, though.

In my opinion, The Beetles were the Spice Girls of the 60s. Mindless twaddle with no point or meaning to their existence
If you like that, you'll love these views of people who hated Godfather II. My favourite:
They also should have removed the time travelling scenes. One minute it is the seventies and then it is not. This was done so much better in Back To The Future II.

Really good to see you here in noughts and ones. Really good.

Jamon. Spiced up in little crumbs. All over the plate.
