  • Hard News: Everybody’s Machiavelli, in reply to Rich of Observationz,

For starters that’s an offensively one-dimensional depiction of Craig, especially given how open he’s been about his background around these parts. Secondly, he’s not shutting down criticism, he’s rightfully calling you (and someone else, originally) out on some crass ad hominem being thrown around. We’ve already got SO MUCH ammunition with which to bludgeon Whaleoil, why the hell are you defending your right to insult other people in the process?

There are just three infallible rules of conduct which apply.

..or… y’know – ignore the checklist and act like a grown-up. I wager you’re suffering a bit of confirmation bias.

  • Hard News: Everybody’s Machiavelli,

I’d like to announce that this summer the Public Address First XV (including all rookies and officials) will be replacing rugby with muffins. Whisky evenings will be wholly dedicated to sparkling wine spritzers. The BDSM dungeon will be used for a late-night crochet circle. There will be a ban on any topics unrelated to royal gossip, or at least one Kardashian.

Indeed. People use the “on taxpayer time” line as an excuse to justify their prurient outrage. I wonder if they’d be so parsimonious if he wasn’t married?

Agree. I’d be superkeen to see the rampantly pro-Len online survey results they collated before the election.

There was one candidate campaigning against the unitary plan, stating that Auckland should be restricting population growth. Unregarded backwater is the obvious solution. (To be fair, I do agree with his policy to restrict overseas investment in NZ residential property)

‘are you a current or former member of any political party, and if so, name them’

I’d settle for “what are your policies?”. Very rapidly discounted anyone that said little more than “I want to make Auckland a world-class city” in the little leaflet. Well, duh.
