Posted on the Split Enz Facebook page this afternoon: this 1980 alternate video for I Got You, recorded for the Paul Hogan show. Artsy! Acting! Winkle-pickers!

I’d follow on Cricinfo on the web and it would be live, check on my mobile app and it would be delayed

I deleted the Cricinfo app ages ago and just use the m.cricinfo site on my phone, which has all the necessary details without the constant app update hassles and mysteriously sorting itself to the very last page of my phone screens all the time.

This cheerful character used to live in Plunket St, Kelburn in 2012, I think in a student flat. Every morning and evening it perched on this railing to receive the pats and tickles of the passing pedestrians.

Met this friendly fellow in Reykjavik in July 2007. Obviously he was pleased to see me, but I think he was probably even more pleased to see the sunshine.

  • Capture: Emma in Egypt,

Wish we'd gone on a guided tour in Syria. The service taxi ride from Amman to Damascus in 2008 was hair-raising. At one point the driver was texting on two phones at once and steering the car with one knee. He also overtook on the dirt verge while doing 160km/h. Stuffing packs of cigarettes down my socks for the border crossing into Syria was almost comic relief after that.

  • Hard News: All John's Friends,

In the discussion about Peter Dunne's reinstatement to ministerial status I've been disappointed (but not particularly surprised) that no-one in the media seems to have noticed or care that Internal Affairs was made available for Peter Dunne by sacking Chris Tremain from Cabinet. Tremain had only been in Cabinet since April 2012 and was low-profile, but seemed to have done a reasonable job in the position - no scandals. His mistake was announcing on 30 September that he was leaving Parliament at the next election. Three and a half months later he's out of a job and back on the backbenches.

And then there’s Letterboxd, the social film review site put together by the team because, well, they love movies and talking about them.

Which reminds me that when you mentioned this previously I applied for a beta login but never heard back. I’d certainly prefer something smarter than the annoying Netflix via Facebook for posting mini-reviews and keeping track of what I’ve been watching. Will give Letterboxd another try.

I only managed 46, Geoff! Will just have to try harder in 2014.

For some reason I love this neologism. Sounds like something chummy out of James & The Giant Peach.

And the co-founders of Q Magazine too, which held my attention for a good 15 years or so. Bit too much Coldplay for my liking these days.
