You can't go past a parrot if you want a smile - life's a party for them once you get them into a predator free environment.
Here's a vid I took last week of two kaka kiddies learning how to use a feeder at Zealandia. Too cute!
And then of course there is the fantastic news that we've now got 7 kakapo chicks this year despite the odds stacked against them. Here's a lovely diary entry including a squee-worthy photo of a tiny chick.

IMNSHO "twatcock" and "#eqnz" are the only contenders - but which to choose!?

Proud owner of #7. Will the next book feature a monotreme by any chance? There's not enough books about monotremes...

Yeah the whole "Dr" thing is problematic. I'd like to be able to use it without feeling like a wanker because I feel I earned the title myself through damned hard work and shouldn't that count for more than my legal standing with my SO?
But I also worked for a while in an environment where my work mates were required to either call me "Ma'am" or "Doctor" - that drove me nuts too (esp the "Ma'am"). I could never convince them that they could all just call me Judi. And I'd sometimes not realize they were referring to me when talking about "Dr Miller". And I don't answer to Mrs Miller - that's my MIL!
A friend applied for a job at UCL - on their online job application form, they had every form of address including "El Presidente" and other weird combos like "Dr Dame".

You had me convinced, until you used the term "synergy", and now I can only think there is no hope for NZ writers...
