  • Muse: The Disappearing of Paradise,

I'll have to admit to being woefully ignorant of Phillip Mann. I've got no idea why, but I'll fix that sharpish. I do think that SF generally gets pretty short shrift as "genre" fiction rather than "real literature", whatever that is, maybe that's why it hasn't been mentioned.

  • Speaker: Colour coding Jonestown,

Thanks for this Simon, I've been to Thailand but never had any sense of the politics. Fascinating.

I think Toni Childs played before Stevie Ray Vaughan. Amazing show. And Dave Dobbyn did an excellent solo turn in between the very slow set changes, just him and an electric guitar that cut out mid song. All the roadies were busy switching the set around so he was running around the stage in between singing each verse, trying to find what was wrong. Didn't miss a beat.

I remember that '92 Chili Peppers show. They'd just got a new guitarist in after Frusciante quit (Axel somebody?) and he wasn't much cop, and it just wasn't all that great. Until Flea told everyone to take off their tops and fling them round their heads while he launched into Higher Ground, which they dutifully did. Just getting into it and then the tip of somebody's sweatshirt sleeve caught my girlfriend in the eye and flipped out her contact lens, and we spent the best bit of the show trying to find it on the ground.

My first proper show was Pink Floyd at Western Springs in '87. I wondered why I bumped into almost everyone I knew at that show, but then nearly 1 in 50 people in NZ was there, so maybe it's not that surprising!

(btw Russell I think you've marked up an extra para at the end of Tim's bit that's actually back to you talking: "I'm not sure how many CRT sets" etc.)

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Dancing Fool,

One of my favourite things about working at a stand-up desk most of the time is that I can dance around a bit more when the music is up loud. For the safety of others, I only do it in my home office...

  • Hard News: Game Lorde,

I don't use Mediahint, unblock.us or anything like that, I'm on a regular Telecom connection with regular Teleecom DNS, and I can't get to iheartradio.co.nz in Chrome or Firefox. It bounces straight to iheart.com.

  • Speaker: You ain't from round here,

Is there a site around which has more information? There's virtually nothing about most of the people who are standing here (Kaipatiki, North Shore). It looks like it defaults to saying a candidate doesn't live locally if they haven't given information.

We need much, much ruder interviewers in this country. Aussie TV would never have let Key get this far. They'd have had him for breakfast years ago.
