  • Hard News: A thundering clash of, in reply to Nick Russell,

I don't get it either, how the dominance of the 'stale pale male' continues in this enlightened age. How much of a role does mainstream media play in this?

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Remembering Roi,

Here's a piece from Roi going back to 1972 - review of the Led Zeppelin show at Western Springs. Roi and friends got primed for the show on laughing gas!

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Remembering Roi,

Wonderful reminder Ian. The 'ghost' of Snapper ( as I like to think of them) Colt 45 happen to be playing tonight at New City Hotel with The Terminals. I'm sure there'll be a story told, a beer or two drunk and tears shed in Roi's memory tonight.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Melodrama,

Opposite Sex also played recently in Dunedin with Colt 45 and The Terminals – and a cracker that was too.

I hear on good authority, in the absence of any listing, that the latter two are playing at the New City Hotel the night before Darxspace 3. NCH is a de facto space for Log Recordings – but it may become more than that, let’s see.

The Terminals will roll out their new ‘Antiseptic’ while Colt 45 will continue no doubt in the vein of… Snapper (Christine Voice and Dominic Stones in the line-up, a young chap called Jackson on guitar),

The original EP goes for quite a lot of money on Discogs

I was looking at Boodle againn last night after hearing Jesse Mulligan make the announcement on Afternoons - and struggling with the pronunciation of said EP!

‘Point That Thing’...is the undoubted opus of the EP.

Jesse gave PTT a spin too. And realising too the initial copies came out with 'A Flying Nun ©omic', I took the liberty of scanning / attaching the PTT page (whose author is one 'JH' JH?)

The Boodle comic itself is a work of art and frequently hilarious e.g. Hamish Kilgour intones: 'don't wear American clothing, ski jackets or Nomads...'; Robert Scott profiles 'bass players thru the ages'; and Martin Phillipps chips in with Samuel the Sailor: '...'one day you're King of the popsicle pile,...next day you're just a stick in the gutter!'

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Sound and Light,

Just out, a bit of midweek listening, from 'the Jimi Hendrix of no technique' - THIS IS MEMORIAL DEVICE NZ: A SPECIAL PODCAST BY BRUCE RUSSELL (XPRESSWAY/THE DEAD C ET AL) – PART 1.

It's a special podcast put together drawing parallels between the fictitious Lanarkshire (Scotland) music scene brought to life by David Keenan in his publication This Is Memorial Device and the NZ post-punk scene of the 1980s - in which of course Bruce himself was a key player.

And, one for the diaries, Sunday 9 April, Spooky Boogie is hosting Vinylism, Lyttelton's One and Only Vinyl Fair of the year.
