Ooooh, the Lost Islands.
Best theme tune ever. The interweb hath provided. I managed to find a .wav of the opening theme and closing theme of the Lost Islands on this website.
It's a really hearty sea shanty if ever there was one, complete with dramatic flute trills to underscore the perilous parts. I'd say more happened in that opening song than would happen in the rest of the episode.
Also this website has the lyrics to the theme song as well as awesome photos of Tony, Mark and David, Anna and Su Ying.
I was surprised to see that only 26 episodes of The Lost Islands were ever made, because it seriously felt like TVNZ played at least 500 episodes of it in the '80s.

Mr Crappy, I'm curious, where exactly was Red House?

Gang warfare has made it into nice central Auckland suburbs. I, Robyn, a Pakeha lady, am a member of the N.O.T.O.R.I.O.U.S. 630 Mt Eden gang who is currently at war with the Mt Eden 274. The turf war has escalated from the streets on to public transport. This is serious.

Does anyone remember in 1996 when Dave Dobbyn did a live performance webcast in conjunction with Waikato Uni? It was back when most NZ interweb came via Waikato Uni's series of tubes, and managed to make any attempt at browsing that evening rather slow and painful.

What was that balls NZ puppet show with Knights mucking about in space? I think Dave Dobbyn did the theme song.
That was Space Knights. All I remember about the theme song was it went "Space juuunk, space juuuuuunk". And had something about a finger on a trigger.

Oh, what's this I hear in the ad's song?
"In the backseat, we sat, getting thinner."
Conclusion: Not eating Kentucky Fried makes you thin. Sounds good to me.

It bothered me that the Iranian 20/20 presenter and the Iranian correspondent were clearly played by the same actress.
Like, how hard is it to get another Iranian comedic actress in New Zealand? Oh, wait...

There's a rather thorough Wikipedia entry about Goodnight Kiwi.
I was interested to learn that the song is an arrangement of "Hine e Hine".

As much as I <3 the Warren & Mahoney designed modern building that is TVNZ's Television Centre, I kind of wish there actually was a television studio built in the side of a white rock mountain, with a little wooden door and steps cut into the outside leading up to the satellite dish.

Speaking of Rock Star Supernova, they will be touring Aotearoa early next year. No doubt it will be as rockstastic as the recent INXS tour.
