I simply cannot abide by the commentary posted by Paul Holmes in the NZ Herald. It was my breaking point on this whole situation ...
Me too. I'm lost for words at the mentality behind that column.

that was probably the River Cottage 10 bird
Close. This one contains 12 different birds, but in the one I saw there was definitely a swan. I remember because the only way they could get one was from the Queen.

Eating turducken is one of my life's ambitions.
I saw one on telly that had (I think) 12 layers; from swan all the way down to quail.

SUNDAY PROGRAMME CANCELS VEITCH INTERVIEW TONIGHTThe Sunday Programme has decided to cancel the interview Cameron Bennett did with Tony Veitch that was going to run on tonight’s show.
“It doesn’t seem fair to Kristen Dunne-Powell or Tony Veitch to air the interview knowing now that it was filmed when Tony was obviously unwell and his state of mind was fragile”, said TVNZ Current Affairs Editor, John Gillespie.
“Cameron Bennett and the Sunday team were upset to hear about Tony last night and agreed to the piece being pulled from air”.
“We would like to pass on our best wishes to Tony for his convalescence and to the Veitch and Dunne-Powell families for the future”.
Nice spin, Mr. Gillespie. Whilst I agree with the decision, I can't help feeling that any non-"celeb" would have a snowball's chance of effecting the same result.

A close family member recently did exactly that, as an 'O pity meeeee' thing.
I'd suggest that no one can really know the reasons for that.

Graeme, I'd started writing before your comment was posted. I do wish that the "Preview" button would update the page as well as previewing the comment.

3410 - this is an assault conviction. It's just a more serious one that has the injuring in it instead of the word assault.
Thanks. I see that now.

The actual offence is injuring with reckless disregard for the safety of others.
Well, that'll teach me for listening to the news media (again.)

Two things:
How in the Hell does someone admit to what Veitch admitted to and walk out without even an assault conviction? Reckless disregard causing injury?! Are we now to think of this incident as an... accident? I'm speechless. The notion that justice is blind has, IMO, been again revealed as a not-very-funny joke.
Secondly, I really wonder if all the talk of suicide attempts wasn't just a smart gambit on the part of the defence team, knowing that when the time came it cuold be used to leverage their client out of a custodial sentence.
