  • Cracker: Rate my Date,

The text asked me to call him at home.

He probably considers himself a real gentleman for having the decency to call it off on the phone rather than a "the date's off, grandma" text.

  • Hard News: Remember where you heard it…,

No De La Soul, no Salt n Pepa, no Helluva by Brotherhood Creed, no Young MC.

I feel your pain, Dr H. I could do with some Young MC right.

And in this vein, I checked out some others. iTunes only has the Jungle Brothers' "Done by the Forces of Nature" and only has A Tribe Called Quest's "Midnight Marauders" (and that's a "partial album" - WTF?!).

But most importantly (for me, anyway) - no Justin and no Robbie. What is going on here?!

I gotta say the 'local sounds' splash screen is naff.

    OMG - isn't it awful?

For anyone who hasn't seen it, click here and prepare to be shocked.

It looks like it was conceived by someone whose only experience of New Zealand was via a tourism ad and/or a South Island ski holiday. I'm guessing it was hastily designed by someone at Apple in Australia, because surely no New Zealand designer would produce something this awful.

When I think of all the things that are great about New Zealand music, I do not think of Mt Cook and flags blowing in the wind. It doesn't even come close.

I'm going to give Apple the benefit of the doubt consider this a placeholder. They have until the new year to put something decent up there. If not, I'll get angry.

  • Cracker: Rate my Date,

I came across a few too many dolphin loving, beach-walking, chick-flick connossieurs than should be allowed in any one place as representative of their gender.

There is an unusually high number of men on dating sites who claim to like beach walking and wine drinking.

Both are fine activities, but in the context of a dating website, it takes on cliched undertones. I suppose it's a shorthand way of saying "look at me!!!1 im romantic and cultured!!!!111"

  • Hard News: Something up with Apple?,

There's still no sign of New Zealand on the drop-down list between Nederlands and Norway, but I've created an account anyway.

Things are looking rather bare, but already I'm eyeing up Sugababes. Now I just have to decide which tunes will be my first purchase.

  • Cracker: Rate my Date,

Interweb dating - one of my favourite topics! Not that I've ever been on a date as a result of a dating website hook-up, but I enjoy lurking on NZ Dating.

My favourite profile was from a nice but frustrated young man who had been compelled to state that he would not reply to any chicks with "angel" or "Holden" in their profile name.

For the older gentleman, I can pass on some advice from my uncle, a widower - stay away from divorced ladies, because whatever caused their last marriage to break up is usually still there. Fortunately he found a nice widow and they're very happy together now.

And finally, I wrote something about angels and Holdens and interweb dating recently, and got this awesome comment from one of my homeboys.

  • Island Life: Stop Making Cents,

I found this entertaining account of an exchange between Brewer and the NZ Herald's Sideswipe, thoughtfully archived by DPF:

Look at these images of Key and Commodore Frank Bainimarama:

In both those photos, there is a mysteriously looking man lurking in the background, looking directly at the camera.

    3. What is meant by the expression “This is all looking very Fijian”

If he knew what he was talking about, he would have said it was looking very Argentinean.

A BBC correspondent recently reported of a serious shortage of coins in Argentina which is affecting everyone from ordinary working people who can't pay their bus fare, to beggars who aren't getting people's loose change any more.

And, oh look - all of Newmarket's coin problems have suddenly disappeared. Now they can go back to complaining about the "third world" street furniture.
