Yeah I recall that now you mention it George, but it's still kind of reflecting negative stereotypes back on the masses. This binary implication that you either do or you don't, similar to the line taken with smoking whereby 'smoking kills', as opposed to the more accurate 'too much smoking kills', (I'm quite comfortable on three a day)
I just never remember any ad, providing the blueprint for the ultimate night of drinking, where having too much isn't an issue. A couple more Fußball tables around he place, wouldn't go amiss either.

Interesting post and thread, peaked somewhere in the middle for me with Craig and Emma setting the gender issue aside. Out of interest, Do ALAC make many ads illustrating the positives of drinking or are they all mainly just demonising?
As I recall from my brief time out of prison in NZ, the only ads concerned with drinking were either violent, deeply emotional scarring illustratons of worst case scenarios, or liquor ads featuring buff larrikans or rugged hard men with not a chick in sight. Is it still all scare tactics? or have they subsequently offered some positive scenarios as guides?
secondly, and rather sadly, i was struck by this from Kyle;
Actually one of the primary ways to prevent domestic violence, is to prevent people doing it again. Domestic violence offenders are very repetitive in their behaviour, they will repeat offend against their partners and their children, and they will carry their behaviour into new relationships and situations.
It's one of the reasons that as much as possible, an environment is created where every incident is reported. That puts people in front of the court system which can order them to do various courses, puts victims in touch with victim support, womens refuge and other support organisations.
It's about breaking the cycle. So absolutely getting more prosecutions is a desired outcome, we know there's a lot more domestic violence going on than is reported to the police, that gap needs to be reduced from both ends.<quote>
and this
<quote>Yes, people need to take responsibility for their actions and front up to improve. But society needs to recognise it for what it is - something that we need to work as hard as possible to fix. If for no other reason, that if we put someone on a different path, they're less likely to hurt others.
curiosuly preceded by this;
I saw a man smack a kid - probably 2 or 3 - on the interisland ferry a couple of weeks ago. Or my girlfriend saw it, I happened to be looking the other way and saw the aftereffects. He slapped her across the face.
We debated whether to say something among ourselves, but the moment passed and we lost the opportunity.
Are we expecting some kind of a miracle here?
Good on you Steve Parks for at least saying something,

Dumbass A reporting for duty: how is being a wife incompatible with being a writer?
I'm not sure asking for clarification is going to clarify anything, sadly. Some of the words will come out in a different order, while not making much more sense.
I didn't say being a wife is incompatible with being a writer Danielle.
Come on, How could being a wife be incompatible with being a writer?A blogger perhaps...
but by nature. a blogger will blog, reinvigorating the harmony of self. in spite of any personal dilemma. Oftentimes making good use of a dilemma in their blog. There's was no mention of incompatibility.
I was angling tongue in cheek towards the cause of the dilemma.
What was said, was "conflict of interest could potentially lead to one questioning one's own purpose or role on a public domain."I was implying that the somewhat confounded subject matter Emma has utilized in writing this blog post could somehow be an expression of a querying within Emma, insinuating that her soul may be torn (though not losing sleep) between the role of the blogger to sensationalize (though not advocate)...
(going with this definition)
1. producing or designed to produce a startling effect, strong reaction, intense interest, etc., esp. by exaggerated, superficial, or lurid elements: a sensational novel.http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/sensational
...truancy, by admitting to previous misdemeanors in a way demeaning to those against whom she at one time misdemeaned. Whilst encouraging others to contribute their own experiences with levity and carefree spirit.
All the while reconciling her role as a wife and a mother, anticipating the perplexing possibility of her own children following her example (after potentially reading that post), amidst the current revised economic climate and the heavy fines levied against truants (many years from now).
and yes hypocrisy was genially covered. Emma got it and slam dunked me before you guys even got your pens out.
All hail the blogger.

my colleague; an (alleged) kiwi knocked her up on a rebound screw and she's catholic.

I'd love to see what the hiring discussion I had with Russell looks like in Mark's head, I think I might hurt myself laughing. "But what I'm really looking for is someone to advocate truancy..."
I'm sure it was all clean and above board; D
happy new year. -
for the dumb asses
old skool thread. contradictions in expecation of wife in marriage.
women must work and be good wives
this can require conflict of interestFor example If our day job were to encourage people to celebrate truancy, but our night job were to discourage our children from that very practice.
this may lead to questioning our role in life on blogs

I think it would come down to fear=respect Danielle.
Fair enough Emma, that's your job and you do it well, I couldn't even stay away a month, what I meant was, when that entertainment flies in the face of the sentiments that you're 'required' to express as a mother/wife. Not think so much now, but when things like this may become an issue (the hypocrisy that is). Maybe it's just me... -
It's damn lucky, no one saw fit to add to this thread by trying to explain for the fourth time why it actually isn't easy to distinguish between erotica and pornography,
Last time someone tried to explain relative perception to me, I found I strongly disagreed.
