and Colony, they had at least half a great album in them ready to roll....not least "cut you up".... chilling AND funky.

  • Hard News: Fake Fiona Rae,

Just signed up and tried a couple of torrents from The Box: one very good, the other broken.

its up there as one of the best torrent trackers out there at the moment.

focused enough to be legible (you don't have to sift through holywood blockbusters and pre-releases to get to the good stuff). and is dedicated to UK tv, which is of course, in the main, 42 million times better than American tv.

and broken torrents seem to be few and far between.

You're saying I got the causation round the wrong way

NAH, I'm agreeing that they are NEVER (or close to it) very well filed; but that the reason isn't that they are being exceptionally cunning. It's because they don't have the labour, although it is made easier by their "look cheap" store designs i must admit......

Im also just realising its not the most exciting of control theories to be worried about :)

messy filing of CDs at the Warehouse is almost certainly deliberate. (1) less time spent resorting => less labour cost (2) they make more money if you are forced to browse a bit

Its not deliberate, they certainly have never asked for any of their stores to do such a thing, apart from the bulk/pallet/super discount lines. They do encourage the music staff to keep the cd section a-z as full and organised as possible (including using items from the bargin stacks), since if someone pops in and looks up John Farnham, for example, they arent too likely to search through the piles of crap to find it.

However: theWarehouse wage/service proposition effectively makes this impossible to maintain.

...And I did see it pointed out somewhere else, but yes, also ironically, why would they pick Oliver Driver as the face of the new(ish) Buy NZ campaign when he's been the easy-to-pick voice of the friggin' Warehouse for the past year or so?

didnt i see something about driver/TheWarehouse in sideswipe a few weeks ago?..........

Reader Helen Dean suggested it was ironic that Oliver Driver was fronting the Government's Buy NZ Made TV campaign, while voicing the "Warehouse ads haranguing us to spend on all those cheap imports". Driver responds: "The Buy New Zealand Made campaign is not about vilifying importers or Kiwi companies that stock imported goods, it's about making an informed choice and checking out the available options. If you have the choice between two products of a similar price and quality and one of them is made in New Zealand, then buy the New Zealand one. The Warehouse is the largest seller of New Zealand music in the country, provides a marketplace for NZ goods and fully supports the Buy NZ Made campaign. As do I."

although: is it a coincidence that over the past few weeks they seem to have been using a "voice-in" (stand in) for Mr Driver?

  • Hard News: Spammer until proven innocent,

I'm not really sure that people who can't afford to buy stuff in the first place are a premium advertising audience.

if only someone had realised that before they started spending all their money.......

The Bond and Bond ad ("Government says fridges are better younger - just like women, really.") was a sexist, ageist piece of shit. What, like middle-aged women never buy major home appliances?

I'm glad that it was pulled and Bond and Bond were made to feel ashamed.

I agree, but some of the previous adverts had been just as edgy; without being quite so vile.....

My impression was that B&B had deliberately run the ad, once, so that Brokovich could complain about it. Getting both companies free publicity and making them both look good to different sections of the public.

that would have been a very brave move, either way the result has been that the Bond&Bond campaign has really lost its spark.....because prior to Erin it was really really cheeky, and the last few weeks have been very very lame.

    >>As a side point it is interesting to me that both brands appear to be playing with a High/Low pricing strategy. If I had any kind of influence within a company with two such simmilar retail channels i would make sure they had different approaches on that level as well.

Two things that stood out loud and clear on my visit to the new Albany westfield on the opening day (for professional reasons only..i assure you) was how JBHIFI are really giving the Warehouse a run for their money on the DVD/CD front, and how incredibly noticably quiet the Bond&Bond there was, about 12 salesmen and zero customers.
