I grew up reading Q and Australian Rolling Stone in the 90s...both terrible magazines
So true.

Don't really see the relevance to any matter of genuine public interest.
The relevance is to Bill's claim that the subsidy has enabled his family to remain together. I call "BS."
Craig, I fully agree... that's kinda what I thought 3410's comment to Glenn Pearce meant... It's not relevant.
Sort of. The idea that you'd be hard-pressed to keep a family with 6 kids together on, say, $370k without a $50k rent subsidy on a house that you own... it's nonsense. Like Kyle said:
I suspect there's a lot of families with six children who would be damn happy to be on $100K, let alone well over $300K.

6 kids
You're kidding, right?

Earlier in the column, she lashes English and Key for deploying emotional spin, when no one has ever actually suggested that his family should be broken up.
I don't want to call English a serial liar, but even if someone was suggesting that, where's the edvidence that without the $50k "rent" subsidy the English family would be unable to stay together due to the hardship of surviving on a mere $276k p.a. + Mary's GP income?

Bill English isn't wrong when he says he is, in his way, saving the taxpayer by accepting nearly $1000 a week towards the cost of living in his own Wellington house.
In the same way that you might save someone a broken nose by kicking them in the nuts instead.

Well, you can't really expect to win when "just hope for the best" is part of the captain's game plan.

I think the fact that men can be unbelievably stupid has been well demonstrated today.

Thanks for the info, Kyle.
Why it should be surprising that the Leader of the Opposition has the greatest expenses of any non-Minister, I don't know*.
Also, why every headline and associated photo was of Goff and not McCully.
*rhetorically speaking

Why is every news outlet reporting that Goff topped the list of MPs' expenses? As far as I can tell, this is not true. Anyone got a link to the actual data?
