The NZ Wikileaks cables released so far (9/1490) aren’t mind-blowing, but you can’t pretend they’re not of historic value in documenting the changing relationship between NZ and the US.
It’s interesting but is it worth compromising diplomatic confidentiality. I was under the impression that Wikileaks had some sort of threshold but if they don’t then it is completely random and as with the above comments re NZ journalists and their independence then people will be inclined to join the dots not knowing what other dots have not been made public.
I don’t see how small amounts of random information is of any use.

Doesn't Wikileaks justify releasing confidential information on the basis that it is of great moral, historical or political importance? Since most of this does not meet such criteria this just reinforces my scepticism of the whole business.
It maybe interesing to know that the Bush administration had such a well informed and positive opinion of Clark but I don't see how that meets the supposedly high threshold Wikileaks claims to have. It all looks completely random.

It would still be my opinion but do have a case for it. But it's Sat night so probably not the best time for me to get heavy like.
But have you or Simon seen the film Matariki? RB is probably nursing some whisky-induced hang overs so didn't do the usual Fri culture thing so there wasn't an opportunity to bring it up. It's very good, a very difficult story structure to get right and Michael Bennett pretty much nailed it, apart from a few niggles.

I'm on to my third glass of wine so references are a bit beyond me at the moment. But if Obama can't make the world a better place I sure as hell think no one can.

Assange himself has decided it suits his case to conflate the sexual assault allegations and the cable leaks so it is I think only fair that he gets to be judged as a moral individual on the same basis.
And on the same basis I think he's a very unpleasant person with all the characteristics of a cult leader.
As for the leaks themselves, I don't have a problem with leaks that have specific targets but when the target is the broad functioning of Obama's diplomacy then I think one can disagree with the politics of all of this. I think the US is engaged in trying to deal with hugely complex issues mostly in a constructive way that advances human rights and democracy.
These leaks want to destroy that in the name of a greater purity. Pilger, Klein, Counterpunch etc have all lined up behind Assange not just on the cables but on the sexual assault allegations - they're all well know for that sort of extremism. And none of them see the contradiction in their positions in the two issues.

The individual provided a small bottle half-filled with metallic powder and a photocopied certificate of testing from a Chinese university dated 1992 as verification of the radioactive nature of the powder.
The writer is intentionally or not a brilliant humorist. I would have over egged it and added it was in a jam jar.

Following instructions from DIA headquarters, USDAO has sent the package via Diplomatic Pouch to Aberdeen Proving Grounds, through DIA, 3100 Clarendon, Arlington, VA. The box is marked “Secret.”
why is the "secret" bit so funny, maybe cause it sounds almost like it was written in crayon.

Assange and his supporters are doing exactly what they consider most evil.
The most sanctimonious people are always they ones to watch out for. Graham Capill comes to mind, amongst others.

Assange is claiming these allegations are a all plot which suggests to me he has either lost contact with reality all together or he's a nasty piece of work. Cult leader may be a bit harsh but why is it every cult leader invariably has something dodgy going on in their sex life.
