Depends on which way you're going up Blair St.

..... as Mark says, dancing like a loon with the kids
Actually that should be "dancing like a loon with kid AND giraffe and Lion King soft toys."

I feel a little awkward going back on-topic after that. Fingers crossed - I hope Finn's okay.

We had a family outing to the Phoenix Foundation, Lawerence Arabia and Tama Waipara at the Zoo last night. Absolutely fantastic - a huge, happy, well-behaved crowd, kids a-plenty and a great relaxed atmosphere. Nothing reminds you of just how much fun music can be than dancing like a loon with a toddler, with nothing other tha a beer and a coffee enhancing the mood.
Well done to the organisers (though it did seem a little...odd...having the whole thing presented and MC'ed by ZM, a station that I imagine plays nothing by the artists in question).
And a big thanks to James Milne - I never thought I'd experience someone playing kazoo at the zoo in this lifetime.

I have a feeling Katherine Rich is someone who doesn't like being told she's wrong. I interviewed her on the radio several years ago when she had just started to make a mark with National.
She was wearing her broadcasting spokesperson hat that day, and came across as not actually knowing much at all about whatever we were discussing. But she was very, very fired up and prepared to argue as if she did.
History since has shown she's prepared to defy the party line. I don't think she was pushed, but maybe she just got sick of the fight and sick of being disagreed with by her 'comrades'.

Here in the advertising industry, we have a special way of detecting the use of ad blocker and, every time it blocks an ad, we sacrifice a kitten to Mammon.
True story. Honest.

Graham, have you ever read Margaret Mahy's short story The Bridge Builder? A perfect little tale for anyone who gets misty-eyed about bridges...

Only if the government was slack.
A benevolent dictatorship under David Slack? Huzzah!

Thanks for the kiwiboomers link--you will find that Roger Horrocks has added an interesting footnote to my piece.
That Horrocks is a groover, isn't he?
There's been several years when I've spotted Roger in the crowd at the BDO. It's always put a smile on my face, and made me swear to myself that I'll be there too when I'm his age.

"Sorry, even if nothing else happened, that's not going to be a lead on the TV news tonight."
Common sense, the bleeding obvious, and solid general knowledge are, ironically, often rare as hen's teeth. Last week I had a client who wanted a marketing stunt that would get them on the news this Thursday. The fact that it that would be the day after Waitangi Day in an election year had completely passed them by.
I'd agree that a lot of people don't necessarily understand just how the media operates as a business, or have some misconceptions about how much control over media can be exercised.
I had a strange conversation over Christmas with my father about the "fact" that the New Zealand media is "banned" from showing images of Heather Simpson, Helen Clark's Chief of Staff...
Can't imagine the Herald complying with that one, somehow.

Or do you seriously want to argue with me that THREE DIE IN CRASH is intended to be read the same way as HOLIDAY CARNAGE CONTINUES!
Not at all Craig - especially when emotionally manipulative language is my day-to-day occupation. My point was less about how the media choose to frame something, and more about how it doesn't matter that John Key never said "boot camp" and Sue Bradford never said "anti-smacking" - opponents will hear them say it anyway.
Actually, in the case of "boot camps", the "let the Army sort 'em out" demographic will hear Key say it and rally behind him, even if what he's actually proposing is something much more sensible.
