Hard News: Barclay and arrogance, in reply to
Not bloody likely. They’ll find a way of letting National off the hook, one way or another.
Andrew Little did a remarkably good job in Question Time today in Parliament. The Speaker was prepared - interrupted one of Andrew's supplementaries on it - and Andrew managed to come back with the appropriate re-phrasing for that and a number of further supplementary questions.

Hard News: Barclay and arrogance, in reply to
But anyway ... the story now seems less that English and Barclay lied after the story broke today, but that they've all been lying about this for more than a year.
And from the Newsroom interview with Dickson - there is specific mention of a threat made in relation to a female member of her family and Davie too mentions threats more generally. I wonder whether these threats were also reported to the Police?
Winston Peters recently said in a speech:
All these Mafia like, standover tactics belong to another world, or a movie script, not New Zealand.

I couldn't agree with him more.

Hard News: Dirty Politics, in reply to
I have a feeling that this story has just gained some fresh legs.
Unbelievable. And the subsequent threatening phone calls in that electorate. Proof this government is rotten to the core and that rottenness has spread to Parliamentary Services as well as the Police.

Like the Alfred Ngaro incident, Bill English's only response is to tell us not to take his Ministers at their word.

Wow, what a mountain to climb but I sense you're getting to the other side having now written it down - perhaps you are able to think of it as a past chapter. All the best in your continued recovery, Chelle.

Hard News: Grenfell: a signal moment, in reply to
It, and the comments, are illuminating insofar as they show how local authorities have been made progessively toothless when attempting to counter the demands of developers, by a combination of removal of legislation, and a lack of funds to fight legal battles.
I've just read this;
http://www.eds.org.nz/our-work/publications/books/last-line-of-defence/which points out the same issue regarding lack of funds to take environmental enforcement actions in NZ. The situation is so bad that many of our regulators don't even have the funding to monitor - so have no idea about the real state of compliance. It's a tragic read.

Hard News: Interesting Britain!, in reply to
Right now I’m finding this helpful.
That was a good read. No matter what the cause, it is really heartening for me to see the status quo disrupted by a resurgent youth.

Hard News: Interesting Britain!, in reply to
Hmm. If true one would have thought that the Queen's constitutional advisers would have pointed this out to May when she met with the Monarch?

Hard News: Interesting Britain!, in reply to
There is nothing Labour could have done from government that would have kept the media and the mainstream from a relentless campaign against them
Yes, relentless. And the Corbyn result proves MSM lost another one - big time.
