So, a "trial by public opinion" is the great bogeyman we should be worrying about?
There's no need to worry Brent, as I attempted to elucidate; the system that necessitates the "trial" with its capitalist imperatives is the root cause of the issue. It's unwise to overlook the fact that the victim was paid off to avoid a"trial by public opinion" delaying the course of justice for a significant period.

TV really do's have a dumbing down affect.
yeah, most certainly. Also, not so down with conspiracies. It's seems the whole education and socialization machine drive us conformingly to take a gander, to speculate and judge based generally on the standards defined by a justice system rooted heavily in popular current interpretations of the leading religious edicts of the age. So often the more enlightened athiests and agnostics still seem to do nothing to obviate this system of judgement and arbitrary morality.
So for my part as a judge, and speculating ganderer, I'm most shocked that in terms of sentencing Vietch seems to be receiving a lesser sentence than say some gardner guilty of cultivating some psychoactive plant cannabis satiric.

I helplessly feel the media manipulation endorsed by the Veitch team is just a reaction to and another symptom of the trial by popular opinion ethos furthered right here.

I always enjoy yoru posts Tim.
The thing I never understood about the NZ education system, especially in light of the smacking bill, is how they force children as young as 5 or 6 to assemble outside in temperatures as low as 5° wearing shorts. You're not allowed to smack your child, but the schools will do their damnedest to freeze their nuts off.

But the civil war will make for good television.

on a side note. I'm staggered in these bleak economic times, that the government is still fining retailers for opening, during the christian festival.

They could try using it as promo/giveaway stock in a country that doesn't eat much kiwifruit, opening a new market.
or
They remake a movie, perhaps some historical epic like Troy or Braveheart, starring kiwifruit...whole armies of kwifruit. no CGI.
or
remarket them as biodegradeable hand squeeze stress relievers.
