  • Radiation: A load of PUS,

I always thought it was compulsory for the Doctor actor to change... oh sorry, 'reincarnate'... every series. Not at all sure about this actor doing a whole heap of programmes thing.

The Doctor regenerates (not reincarnates) whenever the actor feels like not playing the Doctor any more.

The only actor who's played just one series was Christopher Eccleston. All the others have been the Doctor for multiple series. Tom Baker did seven series! (But he is awesome, so that is to be expected.)

And of couse there's a Wikipedia page on the subject:

  • Radiation: A load of PUS,

I really need to join Spoiler Sluts Anonymous, but Utopia & The Sound of Drums? Bugger. Me.

    Hell to the yeah!

I thought I had it all figured out, but Utopia freaked me out so much that I was watching through my fingers. And then with the final revelation, I was all OMG! OMG! OMG! It's him!!!

And as for the Sound of Drums, that was more exciting and thrilling and entertaining than scary, but I found myself wrapped up in a ball of tension and excitement as the episode progressed.

I can't wait for the finale!

Oh, friends in England, how I thank thee!

  • Island Life: A therapeutic dose,

I like the colloquial style of Australians. I wouldn't give you ten bucks for a trailer-load of John Howard, cynical political football player that he is, but I like the way an unflustered Aussie can undo all the tension. Cardiac arrest? No worries. We'll get you on the Packer Whacker, mate.

This makes me think that in New Zealand, if such a nickname emerged for a defibrillator, there would be mutterings that was it was inappropriate and not world class and would make New Zealand seem like a third-world nation, and that we should actually be using whatever multisyllabic term is used in medical books.

  • Hard News: Singapore, I have a problem,

The official recognition of the problem -- the new official "Creative City" policy, under which the government decrees creativity - is somewhat ironic.

I had a look at a Singapore government creativity website. It seems like the National Party's wet dream of what an arts/creativity policy would be. Must... generate... income.

But I like that the Singapore government has its own dating agency to encourage the young single people of Singapore to hook up and have babies. (Must... generate... babies.)

If voting was extended to 16-year-olds, we might see the Anti-Cruelty to Animals party becoming government.

Universal sufferage at 16 - is that the ultimate for Sue?

If 16-year-olds get suffer-age, does that mean they get to be really annoying and made everyone suffer, but they don't have to face the music?

  • Island Life: White and bright,

I would perhaps feel outraged about the marketing of skin-whitening products to brown women, if the opposite weren't happening here.

I'm pale-as, and all around me is this culture that says that I'd look better with golden glowing skin. Fake tan, bronzers, even bloody Natural Glow wants to de-white me.

I have no doubt that if, like the woman in the whitener ad, I wanted a career as a TV reporter, I'd soon be made up to take the ghostly edge off my skin.

Can't I be pale and pretty?

  • Island Life: An appetite for scandal,

Fluffy?!?! This means Jack might just be able to play against South Africa this weekend! This is HUGE news!

Ok, so it's an important sports story. But I don't know who he is, so he and his newborn are further down my list of news than any P child is.

  • Island Life: An appetite for scandal,

my partner and I looked at each other in astonishment that the plane story came second after Millie on TV3 6o'clock news last night!

It occurs to me that I'm more likely to know someone who has a drug problem than someone who's been in a plane crash.

While a plane crash is a pretty thrilling news story, a young person with drug-related troubles is something I can relate to more personally than a plane crash.

I'd rather see coverage of that than plane crash porn. But that's just me.

  • Island Life: An appetite for scandal,

The Herald's website reports this morning that a rugby player named Chris Jack and his wife have just had their first baby.

That's far more fluffy news than Millie Elder being in court, yet no one gets outraged that the media are reporting the commonplace occurance of a birth.
