Meanwhile, back at the ranch Melissa Lee may be discovering that the quickest way out of parliament is the slightest whiff of the misuse of public funds...
I wonder how she is going on iPredict... -
I popped over to see what Mr. Farrar had to say on the subject, but it appears that after his telling off by his beloved leader he has decided to play it safe and go with a culture war diversion by rarking up his base with an utterly irrelevant video of George Galloway.
Oh Dear. -
I get the feeling that when Stephen Joyce looks in the mirror he fancies he sees Karl Rove smiling back. It certainly seems the main political lessons absorbed by National in opposition were taken from George W. Bush's Republican party. As Bart mentions, we are seeing more and more evidence that the sort of chummy insider corruption and culture war divide and rule politics that characterised the Bush/Cheney regime is what is inspiring the direction of this government.

Politically I can't believe how poor National has been in handling it's Auckland issues. It has managed to turn reasonably widespread support for the concept of a super city into a ticking bomb of oppostion to what is now being perceived as an ACT-driven power grab.
And I suspect they have also under-estimated how poorly this decision will go down in Auckland.
Either that or they think their media and poll honeymoon will carry on forever no matter they do, although it would also be nice if Labour had a leadership team which woke up and realised people are looking for a real set of alternatives to the policies of the last quater century.

It seems to me then Joshua the whole idea of completing this extension has to be called into question. The only explaination I can come up with for Joyce's decision is he is totally in thrall of the roading lobby. He can't cancel the project outright - if he did the shrieks from the roading lobby would reverberate forever - and he can't justify the cost the only option that isn't an act of vandalism.

You've got to admire the sheer chutzpah of David Farrar. At the same time as he demands Kieth Ng apologise to him for calling him on his close links to the National party, he runs "Govt saves taxpayers $1.7 billion" Bahahahahahaha!
-
But again Joshua... WHY??? Is it simple arrogance? Is it another manifestion of neo-liberal nihilism?

Melissa Lee might as well go home now and save herself some money. I am at a loss to explain Joyce's decision, except maybe in ideological terms.

New Zealand comedy is uneven, and the comedians can often lack match practice. The fact is we are a small society isolated from the centres of comedy culture. Expectations should be set accordingly, and when we do through up real comic genius we need to celebrate them.
I went and saw Dylan moran on Saturday night. He is on the cutting edge of comedy, and a very funny man. I thought whilst fresh and funny he wasn't properly prepared for a New Zealand audience and several of his jokes - easily modified for local consumption if he had done his homework - fell flat. Which only goes to show even the very best can struggle to get it right for the full show.

Oh yes and to answer your question - I think David Farrar protest violently about any examination of his links to the National Party because it strikes at the very heart of his effectiveness as National Party propaganda tool. That is what i mean.
