the last big bit of land (outside Antarctica) anywhere in the world to be populated by anyone, and that having happened just about 100 years ago, makes it really quite a young country?
How quaint. Dating land by when it was populated by us talking apes.
As for Te Radar, He's making a living in a difficult profession in a small country. Good for him. -
Which catches me by surprise - but it's so long since my own loss that my focus has been more on the overall.
It has made a change in you, I hope it is not a difficult burden.
Do you think anything can change those core belief structures?
You did it. Thats how things change, I guess. I just hate the glacial pace changing a few minds at a time.
Yet wave a dollar, and we're drowning in drool. -
Would giving free help-phone/email/text numbers, preferably for trained non-religious (or otherwise-committed to viewpoint) people - and other pertinent info - along with any report of a suicide - be a good idea?
Yes excellent idea.
But to really make a difference, we as a species, NEED to value those who are inclined to care for and help others. The highest calling for humankind isnt to make obscene amounts of money, or seek to make one's own life as luxurious as one can.
Fuck, didn't we get rid of monarch's who did that?
And I am going to say, and I expect censure. Sport isn't humanitys highest calling either. -
This really is a good thing, you know.
It seems we have stumbled across the place where NZers were secretly running an experiment on the Dunning Kruger effectNow they can get treatment....at long last.

If you feel life is so bad your only answer is killing yourself surely it is better to know that you are not the only one and that it is not that weird to think about it
Well OTOH a person who is contemplating suicide is often acutely aware of their situation in magnified agonising detail. And their self appraisal is often correct. Its just the way out that calls out for outside assistance, and I mean ASSISTANCE.

Let me assure you I really do love the middle class. Of all the classes, it's one of my very favourites.
In fact, some of your best friends are middle class? :)Well they were when we meet in high school.
Now tho'.....they seem upper middle class, but are always complaining about not enough money. Or is that guarding the nest egg.
They like to think working class now I suspect. -
Currently we turn water into milk. That makes sense.
Where's that sarcasm tag..........
"We are decimating our fish stocks mainly with the help of the government"
"And the government is just dying to mine in conservation areas."
"........ our local bodies are fighting tooth and nail to stop renewable energy projects"
"Fonterra desperately wants to allow foreigners to own them but have settled for a better solution in the meantime but one that opens up the possibility of the majority of it being owned by one very wealthy farmer"Self interest.... its quite a powerful motive.
It seems to have a blinkering effect, and adverse outcomes in some circumstances. Funny that. -
And now they are taking "reverse mortgages" as well to ensure that there is nothing left when they die. ban overseas land sales before we become a tenant nation.
Do you know how a reverse mortgage works?
And what the money is borrowed against? What are you, just pissed off at your parents?
And sorry but most of us (the great mass of humanity) became tenants on this planet over the preceding millenia.
So your pathetic bleetings are truly asinine.
SCF was always going to fall, it was just a matter of when. -
Muldoon and his think big beggared this country. The reforms of the 1980's were only necessary because of the mess he left behind him, and who is the hated man?
Not so sure about they were the only way to fix the mess.
And I would say Muldoon and Douglas attract the same amount of opprobrium. -
Must just be me then, cause..this...
If David saying the average consumption of petrol and diesel in this country is of the order of 9.something litres / 100km and the technology (ie cars and trucks) with a modern fleet can get it down the 4.5 L /100km,
just seems to hit my ear better than .... this...
Get rid of the gas guzzlers.
Weird.
