When Winston Churchill stated
“History is written by the victors.”
I fear he sensed all to well that the resounding boom of our greatest victory would continue to echo as a mandate not simply for what is righteous or necessary but also for our whims
For Mr Churchill also said:
“You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.”
And in these early 21st Century days of perpetual war, It would seem this motto has grown the longer legs gripping more tightly to our collective will, reasoning and ...wisdom.
But lest we ever forget as victors writing this history that our validation and authority was sanctioned by a nuclear weapon.
And lest we ever come to fantisise that our history will fill the whole bookshelf.we can, draw sane breath at one inalienable fact.
That there are books to follow this one.
as a broken volume outlives its keeper.
and we can ensure the actuality of that next book not having our hand in it
having forgotten how we procured the pen
decadently bathing it in that trough of ink
conceiving new victories to bleed onto the page. -
Saw 'Up' yesterday in 3D It was a great family film, recommend it. ALso was quite excited to get home and discover that not only do pixar make movies but they sell the software (renderman for maya) that they use.
I'd imagine Cameron can better that stylistically. But 'Up' was certainly as good a story as the Avatar script that has been online for years as one of the 10 great unmade movies. regardless of his shortcoming Cameron is a certainly a master of action/special effects..

My preferred methodology for child discipline is raising my voice and deploying my full array of sarcasm, intimidation and hostile body language until the little shitbags either snap into line or run away in tears. Bad parenting -- perhaps. But not covered by relevant legislation.
So not eligible to legally smack, but....
For some reason I like to imagine you striking hostile body language poses Craig. -
Interestingly in Chinese the word 人(ren) = people. It's a useful loan suffix.

yep, they're a plague. I was kind of disappointed to read Key's response today:
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/2778529/Smacking-plans-considered-tomorrow
Mr Key also told TVNZ's Q&A programme this morning that he agreed with the result. "I agree and support their view there, I think it would be totally inappropriate for a New Zealand parent to be prosecuted for lightly smacking a child.
Which is not what the referendum asked. Based on the results, it may be totally inappropriate to prosecute good parents for lightly smacking a child but the referendum in no way implies that bad parents should not be prosecuted for lightly smacking a child. Who better to ask than the children themselves?
It's not about the smack John it's about the parenting.

o and what I came to post about...that game! awesome. Dan Carter blew my mind. Then I read this...
http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/opinion/2778613/All-Blacks-show-ticker-to-win-close-one
Dan Carter. The Returning One was, OK, not magnificent, but pretty damn good.
And really there was an element of luck about this All Blacks win. They just happened to get the right penalty at the right time.
Maybe I was watching another game but it seemed to be Carter bought us that penalty with a superb kick and some great support play...
and he was OK? not magnificent? Marc Hinton needs a couple more weeks of Stephen Donald.

Just suppose Richie McCaw and Dan Carter got together - how many kiwis would still object to them adopting?
That is an image I think I'm stuck with for life now. That end game man touching is never gonna look the same. Yes I support them!

For your second point, I would note:
1. it isn't just illegal drugs.
2. New section 73A is quite clear that the evidence obtained under the compulsory test cannot be used for a charge under the Misuse of Drugs Act.Point 2 is so random. Not that I'm not in favour of such randomness. Again it seems to be a very clear admission that prohibition has failed. It's remarkably different from the Chinese approach, where you'd be locked in a brightly lit cell for a good week then sent away with no conviction. Not sure about the ethics there, but I have a feeling which method is more likely to make people reconsider using drugs, if drugs are in fact a problem. I've no idea what kind of message the NZ justice system is trying to send ...other than don't grow and sell and don't let the drugs impair your ability to drive or pass roadside tests. Seems like a final whimper before decriminalization.

I'm glad you were able to wriggle out and others will too. My blood is almost pure THC. What interests me is whether or not they are going to be releasing decent information as to how long various drugs stay in the system so as to avoid any unfortunate runins with the legal system, (mainly for my sister, I don't drive for coordinational/environmental reasons).
Definitely seems to be an admission that the war on drugs went south.
