  • Hard News: On seclusion rooms, in reply to Sacha,

how little our education system has done to educate itself about the needs of autistic students. It disgusts me.

As I’ve noted here before, we had to push back against some awful ignorance on the part of one “specialist” in the system. She was convinced the issue was behavioural and pressured us constantly to send our son to a residential school – which would have deprived him of every secure, reliable element in his life.

It caused us a lot of grief and things could have been a lot worse had we not been articulate enough to push back. I’ve worried often about the harm this person has inflicted on other families.

That was more than a decade ago. I hoped things might have changed.

  • Notes & Queries: Breaking Down the Walls…,

The Joe Meek Story is a wonderful, sometimes sad, documentary. It seems to be on YouTube in parts:

The scene where his brothers talk about there being "indoors and outdoors boys" and him being "an indoors boy" is precious.

  • Hard News: Trump's Dummkopfs, in reply to Dinah Dunavan,

I can’t find that on any ‘reputable’ web site. So far all I have found comes from James O’Keefe himself. There is a comment that Fox News reported it but there is nothing about it on their web site.

Snopes looks at O’Keefe’s four 2016 videos and does a great job of explaining why no media organisation goes near them. He’s a lying, unethical scumbag, basically.

  • Hard News: Trump's Dummkopfs, in reply to Dinah Dunavan,

Another story by the Frank Chung of news.com.au. Only faker than the last one.

UPDATE: Okay, although this looks like the fake story from the fake ABC site, it's different and based on some sort of facts. Scott Foval, the Dem contractor named, has in fact resigned.

Why haven't most media reported it? because it's based on yet another ambush video from James O'Keefe, who has a long history of dishonest editing and misrepresentation.

So it's impossible to tell how how much of what is depicted is actually true – in this case, how much of it is simply getting supporters to front up at Trump rallies, whether it's really endorsed by the campaign, etc – as journalists have learned to their cost in the past. Ironically, O'Keefe is such a known liar it undermines what's probably a decent scoop.

It's worth noting that even if it's all true (which is unlikely), the basis of it is getting people to go to Trump rallies and ask questions or simply look different, on the assumption that Trump supporters will act crazy and violent in response.

  • Speaker: Confessions of an Uber Driver…, in reply to goforit,

You had a driver driving you while he was waiting for his P Endorsement, I hope he was not driving for reward of any sort.

No, no. He had his P endorsement and was an excellent driver – he was talking about how long it took for his endorsement to come through.

It was an airport > home trip and I asked how long he'd been waiting (45 minutes) and tipped him when we got to my house. He said no one had ever done that before. People should. I try and remember to have $5 notes in my wallet as cash tips for good rides.

  • Hard News: Friday Music! Special Records, in reply to Simon Grigg,

Closer to 3 I think – The Galaxy was January 86 I think until about Sept 88. The stage was moved then and it was reopened in time for Run DMC in November as The Powerstation.

    And for Housequake!

    ;-)
