BTW when the cemeteries vs. Carisbrook number was pointed out to me at the pub last night we had a long discussion about whether in included dead people (who then couldn't have attended Carisbrook) - but we decided that the people had to have filled out the survey before they had died so it didn't actually include the actual residents of cemeteries (and so probably undercounted their use)..
I just went and looked at the actual numbers - it appears that last year more people used just about every public amenity from the library to the theatre to public toilets than attended Carisbrook - just about the only thing that people used less than Carisbrook were actual playing fields.

No rugby's definitely in decline, the local city council released a survey last month that shows that more people visited cemeteries in Dunedin last year than went to Carisbrook. Even fewer people went to a city park to watch a game. They get about 5000 to a Highlanders game these days

who says that web advertising doesn't reach a world wide web audience - just this morning on a spoof California political site the google served ad on the bottom right showed up with an Elections NZ ad reminding me to register for the upcoming local elections (now all I get when I look at it again are gay dating sites) - it was superbly targeted (politics, NZ) but also strangely out of place in the middle of somewhere that's largely spoof

I'm not really sure what that is - an empty facebook page pointing at a basically empty web page that points back at the facebook page - kind of useless.
The DNS entry is registered to "Sean Topham" presumably of the young nats, but the phone number doesn't match the address (looks like he had to put his parent's phone number in, guess he couldn't afford one of his own).

and that was part of what was triggering my problems, dehydration when traveling (and a recently rebroken toe) - now I get that aisle seat so I can drink like a fish and toddle off to the loo - my trip earlier this month was thankfully pain free

(completely off topic)
having just been diagnosed with gout (only happens after taking long plane trips out of NZ .... leaving me hobbling doctorless somewhere else in the world, which is why it took so long to diagnose) I now feel like I've been thrown back to being some stereotype of a victorian gentleman with a red nose who's been hitting the brandy a bit too much .... and having already been down the gall stone route .... are kidney stones in my future? or are they unrelated?BTW I love the modern 'cure' for mild gout - drink lots of water and take a lot of ibuprofin - which is what I was doing because I was somewhere hot and my foot hurt - I was self curing before I could get back in the country without realising - mind you bulk ibuprofin is so expensive here in NZ, I can walk into any drug store in the US and buy 1000 tablets for $20, here you get a prescription because they cost so much over the counter (the downside of pharmac I guess)

Any chances of opening a Film Festival thread?
la-la-la-la-laa - puts fingers in ears - remember the film festival doesn't start at the other end of the country for a few weeks yet - no spoilers please

I thought that meant "There's a sign in the Domain that says "No Possums""
You have to read it with a Barry Humphries voice: "There's a sign in the Domain that says "No", Possums"

Get a room in a Motel in one of the nicer parts of NZ, sit back and enjoy the News coverage of all the drunken revelry and resulting chaos of a badly organised fiasco.
What about the rest of us who, well, want to avoid the rugby? putting all the drunken rugby fans inside what's basically a big cage has some appeal - perhaps we could designate a couple of cities as "rugby free" for the duration.
While we're on the topic I'm also in favour of a check box on next year's income tax forms (and that form you fill in at the border):
[ ] willing to pay for Rugby World Cup - if checked include checking account number here ___
people who don't check it wont be allowed to attend games, party centrals or watch it on TV.

surely calling someone "chronologically overendowed" rather than "old" is PC in itself .... (runs for cover)
