FWIW I think this is a very good show.
Im quite a fan of the music Oscar's co-pilot kirk james plays too. Kind of a weird mix of funk and jazz and not quite either, old and new. Not quite sure how their time table works, it might be a week on week off thing.
Both Oscar/Kirk's music is precisely the music I want to hear at 12 on a sunday. Major bummer is the lack of frequency strength, if im not near my computer i miss out. Resorted to hanging my comp speakers out the top floor window a few weekends ago so I could dig a retaining wall and hear the show.
Back on topic, I really like Mikey, and personally preferred him to Wallace, but was *hugely* disappointed when they reappointed him. I always thought bFm was a bit of a nursery for breeding new talent. Even if it didnt work at least they gave it a go. Mikey's reappointment changed this view for me. -

was chatting to a client in US about this yesterday. Not much info out on this particular crowd at present. However one idea is as a possible alternative to energy stores for intermittent/renewable generation. Eg CO2 sequestered from existing fossil gen and then solar panels used for the heating of the CO2 which is converted to fuel oil. This is in contrast to other ideas behind how to capture the solar energy when its not needed (such as batteries, melting salts, compressing air in caverns).

Not quite seeding, and sort of off-topic, but maybe the idea's not as dumb as it sounds
The coal link in the article is a bit of a side issue, the key of this research was that it can reproduce some fuel from CO2, which is the waste byproduct of burning fuel.

Was I mistaken when I heard someone from the government on Morning Report this morning describe mining as "sustainable"? If so, it's a pretty radical redefinition.

Nearly choked on my cornies (actually I was on the way to work, "nearly infarcted on the ferry"?) when I heard on National this morning that the govt royalties for extracted gold are in the order of 1%
Was enthralling to see the politicians and the mining advocates evade and basically point blank refuse to confirm/voice this figure when asked.
That's, like, low right?

The rest of the broadcaster's revenue, $3,818,000, is earned from interest, fees for co-location on its transmission high-sites and other sources. It's a small but significant point, because it dispels the idea that Radio New Zealand is some passive funding sink that wouldn't know how to earn a dollar if it tried. It generates millions of dollars in earned revenue a year and has done for a long time.
How much of this is interest earned on their funding, cf RNZ knowing how to earn a dollar?
I looked at their accounts but didnt see a breakdown (but accounts are pretty much greek to me)

Point 1: it takes time to find directors.
Point2: it takes even longer to recruit them.
Point 3: I'd prefer the directors are in place before November 2010, rather than 9 months later (the expected timeframe it'll take to find, scrutinise and appoint).

Does that mean we can start actually building wind farms rather than refusing to because it's too ugly? I know wind is not a consistent source, but at the least it would allow us to run those coal and gas plants less.
Don't forget hydro, Project Aqua was scuttled too.
