After the brief, polite meeting Ms Fitzsimons told reporters she had come to the mall because she was not going to be sharing any stage with Mr Key in any forum or debate during the campaign, and questions needed to be asked.
Magnificent.
Disliking Labour's approach to politics, disliking National's mix of 90s hardtalk policy and made-up-on-the-hoof socialism. While the Green's economic views don't gel you have to give them credit for coming out with principled, researched, understood issues politics. -

Precisely. On the whole Little Britain doesn't do it for me anymore, but a lot of the jokes were in the ridiculousness of the stereotype itself - perhaps the fair criticism would be to state that not everyone quite gets that so certain people (already inclined that way I'd imagine) see the joke in the stereotype, rather than in the lampooning of the stereotype.
And her research clearly wasn't that great - Daffyd was (ironically) an invention of David Walliams, not Matt Lucas.

Although it hasn't backlashed on the Herald yet due to their extraordinary about turn on it. I found that a pretty amazing insight to a political newsroom, one that wouldn't have been possible without the evolution of intertubes newspaper sites. To go from "smoking gun, we're going to own him" to "bloody Labour, smearing Key" in a matter of hours is undoubtedly how many of these stories play out - but historically not in a way that us huddled masses get to see...
I have no idea who's running the spin here but it doesn't look great for any of them.

It will be interesting to see the details and the spin then applied - that Herald article doesn't really say much that's damning to me, except the "I definitely left before the payments were made" line he made when clearly he hadn't.
As to what each side really thinks that means will be an interesting (and possibly nauseau inducing) look...

Gareth, yes, it hinges on what "coalition" means, doesn't it. The Greens aren't in coalition with Labour, they're just voting yes on confidence and supply.
I did hear Key was specifically asked around abstentions and the like and he still said "no way" (can't find the source at the moment sorry). So by all coverage I've heard there is no way he'd utilise NZF support (in whatever form) to maintain a National Govt.
Craig, I guess that should the highly unlikely (but still quite plausible) scenario I posited play out, Key will either be an electoral hero (relegate National to opposition for the sake of not dealing with NZF) or a complete pariah (accept it as "the only way we could make Govt") to me. No real middle ground there!

I'm completely sick of the media asking John Key a thousand variations on "are you definitely not going to rely on the NZF vote? really? like, super really?" question, but does anyone know if he has specifically been posited: Labour led-coalition on 59, National-led coalition on 59, Winnie says "righto John, I'll give you those 2 seats of mine". Will he really say no and let Labour lead the next government. Like, super really?

Tax simplicity is nice. Drowning the government in the bathtub so you can give a couple of billion to the rich isn't.
Indeed - the numbers in front of those three percentage signs in his tax table aren't the right ones (nor the thresholds at which they apply), but the concept of three tax tiers, income splitting etc are ones I support.
Not enough to vote that hair in, of course...
