Government does diddly squat...
I think there must have been a memo from the Government to The Press
this story http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/business/the-rebuild/81011990/frozen-squatters-shelter-in-christchurchs-derelict-buildings - uses the word 'squatters' 16 times without once mentioning 'homeless people' or even 'rough sleepers'!There was a hell of a frost in Chchch last night by the way...
I especially love this caption:
Squatters are heading indoors for the winter and police and property owners are not happy.
I thought that to be a squatter you technically had to already be indoors?

who legally needs an assault weapon unless they are gonna assault someone or something... and surely that is only within the purview of armies or law enforcers - otherwise you reap what you sow... -
The Orlando police chief has just released an email to staff, including this paragraph:

Terrorist as a description is very blunt edged shorthand to bandy about.
Everyone assumes 'terrorist du jour'
- which for America today probably means IslamicThis savage and barbaric act today strikes terror into the populace,
but it doesn't mean it was 'politically motivated'
(which is the text book definition of a terrorist)
but that tone helps fuel fear

Thus, there are now four possible readings for the last word of the title, all of them accurate: Message and Mess Age, Massage and Mass Age."

In Love With These Times is a perfect Flying Nun artefact – the publishers managed to misspell Straitjacket Fits on the back cover blurb (Muppets!) so there is an inserted erratum (and apology) sheet in each book – I chuckled loudly at that.

I was in that caravan too, and the cricket game, but I guess long lists of names get a tad boring – he captured the zeitgeist and remembers a hell of a lot more than I do. Surprised the New Year at New Plymouth didn’t get a look in – but I don’t know if anyone really remembers that weekend…
