you've taken the heat off me with that one.
Another wrong decision by the state, Sofie. It's a sad tack to take. More people will die because of this, Power prices are already over the top. They sure picked the time to fling this one through...again.
I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but all urban apartments in this city get 3 months of 24/7 heating for $200 (NZ) over winter Nov 15-Feb 15, a cost that is worn by the landlord. I realise that not much of a comparison can be made between the two countries, but I ponder.....values and priorities.

From what I've just seen on international sites, this suppression will do immeasurably more harm to the guys career than if he just um "grows a pair" faces the music and makes a public statement. Whoever thought pushing this offshore was a good idea?
-
Seriously Sacha, what happened last night? I wasn't here. The hysteria is a almost understandable, except there are are handful of NZ sites that are openly flouting the suppression order as far as I can see and as long as they remain up, your fears are questionable, especially with regards to me.
I'm willing to go along with the official story but I think you're beating whatever I may or may not have done yesterday morning out of proportion.

What happened last night? you just replied to my second post today. I've been on the topic of name suppression.

Why would the justice system place so much responsibility in Russell's hands?
Please just accept that it does, and behave accordingly as has been asked.
Easy Sacha, safety catch is on. I will abide by the law, but I don't accept that, I want it changed because it's bullshit. How the current or previous Government could let legislation like this stand 10 years into mainstream internet usage is a disgrace, giving hooligans like dubmugga and myself total power to fuck businesses and livelihoods, for the sake of one man's vanity or livelihood or even life. On what level is New Zealand's name suppression legislation good for greater society?
-
So it's a stitch up. says a lot about the mentality the New Zealand Justice system is sewing. Considering the victim was outed yonks ago, why would she ever have assumed court was going to bring a better result than a bit of restorative justice.

Why would the justice system place so much responsibility in Russell's hands? No offence Russell, I sense there's a bit of stress involved in the knowledge that some wanker with a tin 'o spam could shut down half NZ websites by mentioning a name. And that sword is now hanging permanently over the site's head, this is not economically wicked. Also if the celebrity dies, does the suppression stand?
Why is it a god idea for a case like this to even go to court? Why must everything go to court in New Zealand? Why not just hold mediation at the police station, bring in a J.O.P if you need to. video the mediation so nothing untoward goes on, and if the victim achieves a satisfactory and reasonable outcome, just been done with it. In the interests of sanity.
IMHO democracy and institutional secrecy should be mutually exclusive, all steps should be taken to ensure that the levels of transparency remain on a positive swing, but...secrecy is totally underrated as a means to control the masses. the secrecy maintains the heirachy, which is why John Key knows and you don't.

But seriously guys, if this dude were an artist you supported, would this information prevent you from getting down and shaking your ass to the funk? If the dude is an entertainer, then what more do they need to do than entertain, surely this alley way move is a surefire sign of a slight shift in stylistic direction and the entertainer should get hip to market whims, I see similarities with releasing a crap album or any other commercially unsound decision.
I just find it a bit creepy that we're seeing a decision handed from the judge entrusted with it by statute, to people who want to sell papers and drive ratings.
Yeah, what they're doing seems politically motivated, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a reworking of the legislation, which would inevitably lead to lower ratings for a story like this.

Most celebrities actually make money from being known by a wide number of people-
After his falling out with law, we didn't all of stop buying Michael Jackson's stuff. Neither did we forget him.
Say it were to ruin his life, the thing that concerns me are those 'aspiring entertainers' hoping to get a break who wouldn't get name suppression because they're merely aspiring rather than fully fledged real deal shiznuts. Shouldn't there be a job vacancy sign up somewhere? Won't there be a newcomer ready to fill those shoes? What are these safety nets hanging beneath the lives of New Zealanders? How do they benefit rational decision making?

But the offence with which he was eventually charged took place in the course of about 10 seconds. If, indeed, it was to ruin the rest of his life, that would be quite a punishment.
different if he was a teacher though aye.
Well, he didn't think about it, clearly. He was very drunk and went down an alley with a couple of young women to get a blow job in the middle of the night, and appears to have drunkenly believed their friend was joining in too. It's pretty gross.

oxymoronic paragraphs. incongruous attitudes conveyed there i feel Russell. Either it's no biggie or it's gonna ruin his life. Can't imagine it would ruin his life more than all this speculation and the guys coming up after gigs and giving him shit for being the artist formerly known as---
As someone said, press like this could do wonders for a celeb's career in this day and age.
