When these rodents are eventually apprehended and exposed to the light , we are always amazed by how nondescript and petty they seem. As was the case with Arie Smith – blah blah blah
In fact, the published photos accentuated such feral features – an unusual angularity offset by a blackened eye and the demeanour of one who spends much of his life in the darkness .Sez lhaws. F*#ck you micheal, you bottom feeder.

as long as I can do this without the scorn of the competent,
All you have to remember is which is the weighted side, and never roll up with the weighted side out, unless you are betting on the game next to you and want to spoil an end.

I'll go you one better. How about this?
In America, we have wrestled with the idea of divine sanction since the country’s inception. Some of us believe we have a God-given dominion over the earth; others argue that we’re bound to a larger Gaian system and are, at our best, caretakers.
My heart is with the caretakers. But I believe that humankind made a subconscious collective bargain at the dawn of the industrial age to trade the resources of our planet for the chance to escape it. We live in the transitional age between that decision and its conclusion.
The author castes the net a bit wide. I'd say if you were going to argue that You'd have to say " some of humankind". As for a role for us I would have thought glorified janitors is more than we deserve right now.

Civilization is built upon layer upon layer of lies, to the extent that to successfully be assimilated and contribute one must not only be adept in the practice but more significantly able to successfully ignore/ obscure truth to function adequately socially.

"high expectations"
Oh I have all manner of expectations of myself and my fellow beings, and I'll probably see all of them scattered on the winds of stupidity and self interest.
Would that we all did our jobs with equanimity, skill all the time and were fully present in each and every second and able to use our personal skill, intelligence and depth of knowledge of our species acquired from lengthy training and careful coaching by their parents and all grown members of society we came in contact with, at that very moment, in that truly awful situation when it was most needed.
Alas my ideal seems to high, what am I to do.

But a much bigger reason is that we spent a lot of time and effort developing farming practices from scratch rather than simply doing what great^10 grandaddy did. We have a very good set of skilled workers in the primary industries (milk/wool/trees/fruit).
If anyone in NZ had that many ancestors who have been farming in NZ for the past 2000yrs, Our farming practices might have been sorted by now.
Producing milk mmm, yes, I like a flat white like most. But I've always haboured reservations about dairy farms.
Maybe when the cows get houses they will count as citizens. I wonder which cow family will get the peoplemeter? Will they be a mainstream cow family, or one of those wildly disparate families that ends up feuding with each other all their lives. -

Others will muse that TVNZ 7 is to be axed at the same time as the crop of shows it has nurtured have reached some maturity: Back Benches, Media7, The Court Report, The Good Word; and when Damian Christie’s Hindsight has just begun to take an intelligent, engaging look at our TV heritage. I know that at Media7 we feel we’re doing something different and useful, and I’m sure the other teams feel that way too
You certainly are, maturity and a sense of engagement, and not delivered from on high.
And imo, most certainly useful, and different in a positive way. A direction that should be gathering more momentum not killed off. -
