  • Field Theory: LOLWTFBBQ,

'm fortunate in that I will drink ANY beer and be happy with it. Doesn't matter if it's 8 bucks a pint or 15 bucks a dozen.

It's so good having no standards.

I submit that it is imperative to have some standards.

We were once given some Kiwi Lager by a relative with exceptionally poor taste in beer; I decided to see how many you had to drink before it stopped tasting like utter crap. I still don't know how many that is, because by the point I couldn't stand up properly it still tasted like utter crap. (Sculling was definitely a necessity for this experiment.)

Any beer that bad should be avoided at all costs.

The thread has, would you believe, actually sort of moved back on topic. With a minor diversion into Australia's alleged nuclear capabilities, for that extra-special touch of madness.

I kind of lost it half way through I think. Danielle did come in with a WTF warning, but I'd been sucked into the vortex by that stage, and was letting my self-guided reductive missile get the better of me.

The trouble with something which is that totally fucking nuts - and unsupported - is that the question is always whether it's better to attack seriously or laugh off, and there's usually just enough of the debater in most of us to want to prove the other person wrong, rather than just ludicrous. And then we realise it's nearly 10pm and the other guy still believes China is about to invade and we are never going to convince them otherwise.

(Okay, that may just be me.)

but rather the wide-angle view that shows me where this action leads ("(1) go public against China; (3) win!").

The link George gives suggests, as one reason, that it may be the first step to seriously supporting a general anticensorship campaign, as in material support such as IP addresses and bandwidth, both of which Google has in plenty - and thus, yeah, moving for a really uncensored internet. It'd be fairly radical, if so - and back to Keith's "embargo" headline, though more along the lines of an airstrike than an embargo - but it'd certainly be...interesting.

(I don't know that I find this theory entirely convincing, but it's most intriguing.)

  • OnPoint: Google to Embargo China,

Most of our money is spent on weaponry and operations that the public doesn't even know exists.

I cited 'clearance divers' (or frogmen) because of the few who have worked in foreign waters in submarines with these capabilities and weapons.

Not much to say other than its been going on for years.

Considering this treaty, I wouldn't call this sort of assertion "not much"...

(Not saying it's not true, just that it's very serious if so!)

And yes, I foolishly got drawn into this, but it is hard to provide a counter argument of substance when the starting point is so lacking in credible references. 'The Death Star response', as it shall now be called (sorry, presumptuous?) seems about right.

Given that all the actual arguments have drawn a repitition of the accusation that we just don't want to debate controversial things, I think the 'Death Star' (or perhaps the 'Reverse Maui'?) response is pretty much the only option.

A scientist and cunning! You're working for the Chinese aren't you? I can see your slanty eyes now.

In that case, do you think I could persuade them to give me some funding? Then, once they invade, they'd have a populace prepared to welcome them and a couple of manuscripts ready for publication, which seems like a bargain to me.

Apparently the discovery of artificial sweeteners tends to be necessarily accidental.

    Emetics, too, I imagine.

The problem is that with the destruction of the American automotive industry there will be very few freedom loving transforming robots to stand against them.

You mean all the Japanese imports won't join together to form one freedom-loving super-robot? You're destroying my childhood dreams here!

I'm just gonna post nothing in particular here, because otherwise I'm going to have to go nuclear fission on that other thread which is doing my head in.

Perhaps I'll go play with the multi-injection auto-pipette for a bit. Although I think I may be banned.

Kyle's Death Star allegory is keeping me hanging in there, but it's tough.

I had a multi-pipetter for my current project until someone stole it and took it to Dunedin (questions of actual ownership are so petty.) I miss it very much.

Does the pony turn the cog on the plant to make the electricity, or do you pack the electricity on its back and deliver it at night to people's houses, kinda like a reverse nightcart?

I was thinking of it more as a marketing strategy - distracting people with the pony to stop them asking questions about how I solved the fusion problem. Everyone likes ponies. Just ask Craig.
