I forgot to mention before that in 12 years Amy and I have never done anything for Valentine's Day. And only partly because it's my birthday two days later.
This year, I will be at a wedding. In Ashburton. If I'm the only single, cynical woman there, there could be tears*. Thank God I've got hot shoes to wear. (Sorry Emma.)
*I am not sure who will be crying though, Probably me. -
So why don't we all resolve to give an anonymous gift to someone this year, just to make their day that little bit more magical?
The most romantic thing that has happened to me in the past couple of years, was a random stranger in the cafeteria of the Bluebridge ferry, who spotted me being offended by some gross old men commenting on my, ah, physical attributes, folded a paper serviette into a rose, and handed it to me, saying "here, a rose for you". So sweet, so timely, and entirely unexpected. I still have the rose.
Of course, I'm the girl who once kicked an ex for saying, after I lamented that no one would ever create great art for me said "That James Blunt guy wrote a song for you". Vomit.

The Sevens is a pretty cool event and probably does bring in a lot of people will to spend fistfuls of cash on shiny trinkets and booze.
Sure, and does how much damage to the city, with the cleaning up vomit, graffiti, and at least 4 smashed car windows in my street alone?

Not to veer teh conversation away from romance novels, it looks like the game yesterday was a cracker:
The White Ferns are one win away from a rare women's one-day cricket series success against Australia after edging their rivals by four runs in Whangarei today.
The White Ferns defended their 218 for seven by holding the world champions to 214 for nine in the second match of the Rose Bowl series at Cobham Oval.
That gave New Zealand a 2-0 lead in the five-match series, which they can now wrap up with another victory in the third outing, in Hamilton on Friday.

Or I might just have decided to start experimenting on y'all.
I probably should have added this on the other post, but for the record, I've only ever read one Mills and Boon. I was 10, my aunt bought it for me, because it was called Megan's Folly. I only have a dim recollection of the cover, but google tells me:
Megan had already decided to enter a convent when she returned from searching for her missing paintings in Adelaide.
Instead, she found herself nursing famous Australian actress Susan Shea Talbot, and falling in love with Richard Talbot, an embittered man with peculiar attitudes toward his wife, his daughter... and Megan.....Quick question. On what planet is that appropriate for an 11 year old?

Aargh. That's the word I was looking for.
I use it often when I'm talking about Chicks and Sport.

"There's that crazy old cricket lady," people will say, "the one showing the inappropriate amount of cleavage."
And there was me thinking they were going to be describing me like that.
I am very grumpy I won't be in Wellington on the 12th, cos I would totally have dragged some people along for that.
I kind of get the lack of coverage of womens' sport, in that a lot of the time, it's just not good to watch, but the White Ferns are actually good. Aargh.

In what sense? Rarking the Aussies up or seriously copping it if we're ever caught cheating ourselves?
Nah, cos we actually have a pretty good wicketkeeper.
(Contributing to the former? What, me?)

I think my favourite moment of the commentary was when we needed 2 from 2, and one of them said "They outlawed the underarmer, right?"

I can't think of another sport where players normally only play offense or defense, not both.
Netball.
But not to the same degree, It's not like the goal keep runs off at the end of every play, and the wing defence and goal defence are pretty integral to getting the ball up the court.
