  • Island Life: So, what do you think of…,

How about we just give the 97m to National Radio? It is all about priorities you know, and a bunch of well healed foreigners will just have to back a back seat to pressing domestic issues.

Tells you all you need to know about their withered intellect and unconfident emptiness of spirit.

You what occured to me today? This is government is just like the Shipley one. Bereft of imagination, pinched and spiteful. And what is the link? The dismal double dipper Bill English, bringing the same brand of narrow minded provincial shop keeperism back, as if the decade he spent in opposition never happened.

  • Field Theory: Out with the old,

I am a bit confused, what with all the penalties for the side with possession on the weekend and all.

If I were a coach of England (just saying) and I was handed a set of rule variations that had a bias in penalties towards guaranteed possession then my preferred tactical approach would be to get a gigantic pack, wait for a defensive penalty, kick it out near halfway, have a driving maul from the subsequent line out (which no one can pull down now) and trundle up to somewhere around or over halfway then get my superboot to kick the next inevitable offensive penalty. We can hang onto the ball forever, so I won't need any of those fancy pants Polynesian/Kiwi skill sets, just beefy, barrel chested, ruddy faced men from good public schools.

I would then pick the rest of team around a suffocating umbrella defense to snuff out anysort of adventurous play from the other guys, and hope their more adventurous game means they have a higher error rate... ...Which will allow us to turn over their ball, and begin the penalty scoring process again.

Repeat ad naseum, complete with whinging All Black's fans complaining from the moral high ground that we lost the World Cup because the opposition won't let us beat them by trying to play us at a game we are better at.

Sofie, I agree. The response has been very muted. I'm surprised too...

Anne Tolley is having the repoprt re-written in bright crayon font 45.

Once she has read it out loud, the opposition will get a feel of how seriously the giovernment is taking the report...

  • Hard News: Auckland: where only one man votes,

If he appoints new directors he will have 'golden handshake' problems with the old ones - or personal grievances, you take your pick. No director in his/her right mind will agree to be a director if Brown threatens to turf him out upon being elected. That'a not a good statement, but an unsurprising one nevertheless.

    Fuck them.

If they get themselves appointed to these CCO's as the result of a right wing palace coup orchestrated by the 3.5% Mussolini and then get kicked out by an equally hard nosed left wing respose then it serves them right. No a cent to even help with the dry cleaning when their sorry fat cat asses land in the gutter.

I have an idea for the Herald, - perhaps they can run stories on the SuperCity under banner headlines of "DEMOCRACY UNDER ATTACK".

Or have they already cried wolf on that one?

  • Hard News: A solution in search of…,

So the chief investment in getting people away from Eden Park is the removal of three houses and an underpass to Kingsland Station? And the rest are supposed to use shanks pony???

    Good grief.

Kingsland station can only take one train every five minutes and I'll believe that frequency when I see it. The platform isn't very long either. Someone is bound to fall on the tracks as thousands of Europeans, conditioned to excellent rail services, jostle expectantly on the platform.

Jarbury's idea is, as usual, a beacon of common sense in a Byzantine sea of abysmal, penny pinching mangerialism.

We need to have a dedicated bus lane AND trains AND close the Kingsland Strip AND a walking bus to move people in an efficient way.

  • Hard News: A solution in search of…,

But doesn't the idea of a "walking bus" (tell me they are not serious) presume everyone wants to go to downtown Auckland? And what will they do when they get there anway? It is well and good saying it is 3.5km to Queen Street, but it'll be closer to a stroll of 7km to get to "party central" and that is quite a walk for anyone let alone the choleric fans of, say, England. There would be a riot around Mayoral Drive.

If Len Brown wins the mayoralty then it looks like the fight for control of the SuperCity will be a straight class war showdown between yesterday's Auckland - the crony old school tie kleptocrats and their enablers like Hide - and (as they would see it) a left wing interloper from the third word. The stakes are high, since for Bown to lose such a showdown would be to lock most of Auckland's future population into permanent underclass status.
