yuh we thought the fireworks flyby looked obviously fake too. i guess they thought it was too fake to pull off, so they'd better admit it. it must've been an odd thought process that lead to the decision to CGI fireworks

glad you found that photo of george w. this was my favourite.
The president needs some work on his passing, mis-hitting a pair off his knuckles. When May-Treanor passed the ball back to him, he acted like he was going to dive after it but decided to stay on his feet.
Then May-Treanor turned her back to the president, offering her bikinied rear for one of the traditional slaps that volleyball players frequently give each other.
"Mr. President, want to?" she asked, repeating an offer she made when Bush gave a pep talk to the U.S. athletes before Friday's opening ceremonies.
Bush smilingly gave a flick with the back of his hand to the small of her back instead.
WTF?

degrees are no indication of aptitude. I once watched two engineering students fail to open the easy-peel wrapper on a block of cheese.
That's not fair, we were too busy optimising beer funnel flow rates. Cheese wrapper peeling 301 is an optional elective anyway.

Jesus wouldn't wear togs, he'd just walk on the water.

yeah... but did you see the 400m freestyle relay just now? Overtaking the french at the last metre to take gold, while knocking 4 seconds off the world record they set a few days ago. unbelievable

so during the opening ceremony I was all 'holy SHIT! This is incredibly awesome! How can anyone ever top this spectacle?'
Meh... i was a little underwhelmed. Havoc (bFM) said they were going to steamroll a tiger. Now that would've been over the top
What will the London Olympics do? I wouldn't even try to top Beijing. I'd maybe just light the flame and organise a sausage sizzle for the athletes. -
A tv show is a gap filler for advertising
it's funny cos it's true. Have you seen tvnz6 / tvnz7 / maori? No ads = quality TV.
Strange that. And quite depressing, when you realise that hardly anyone watches those channels.

People have faith in all kinds of fairytale stuff, who are we to insist otherwise?
When they're spending our tax dollars on this kind of crap, we absolutely have the right to get grumpy about it. Market forces and ratings don't make it right, it's still peddling nonsense.
the ultimate tragedy is when the disempowered reject science as a tool of the oppressors, thereby becoming more disempowered, and losing the opportunity to shape science to meet their own needs.
I agree - although i find it hard to believe that could be applied to NZ.
It is interesting that sensing murder rates so highly though. Do the viewers actually believe the psychics, or do they just like the show for the entertainment that it is?
-
Psychicism is the ultimate equal opportunity, anti-authoritarian belief system, in which anyone is as good as anyone else. When science is the world view of those in charge, those who are not in charge find something else - see the documentary on polio vaccination in Africa and India that screened earlier on 7 last night.
uhhh.... but the psychics are still full of shit, right?
