Robyn Malcolm on Close Up: "There was no boycott."
"We lifted it on Sunday"
"Lifted what?"
"Well, the ... the conversation ... suggestion that ... um ..."

Step away from the Trotter, Mister King. It causes hair loss, blisters, infertility and occasional fits of homicidal mania.
I just popped in for a look, honest ... I can stop any time, really I can ...

Chris Trotter rails against Peter Jackson:
Men like Jackson demonstrate what the founder of sociology, Max Weber, called "charismatic leadership". At the heart of this, the most ancient form of leadership, is the concept of loyalty.
For the charismatic leader the intense bond of personal fealty is all-important. Those who follow the charismatic leader do so because he has demonstrated extraordinary ability. He is a superior being, and that not only gives him the right to lead, but also imposes a moral obligation on all "lesser beings" to follow.
The trade union is thus the mortal enemy of the charismatic leader ...
And in doing so demonstrates the difference between a boss suitable to run, say, a shoe factory and boss suitable to be given HALF A BILLION dollars to make a movie. The trade union is the mortal enemy of the charismatic leader? OK, if you say so, Chris. But it takes a charismatic leader to make movies that big. Sorry. That's just the way it is. Don't like it, Chris et al, then get out of the movie business.

Actually.... watching that video (which mainly consisted of Mr Whipp and Ms Walsh walking down a street) would prove nothing about what did or didnt happen to Robyn Malcolm leaving the same place...
Prove nothing? It proves they didn't have a police escort and -- with Robyn in frame much of the time -- shows no evidence of jostling. Indeed, she moves from behind Whipp at one point and steps closer to the camera, reaching out a hand to push the camera aside (the first I can see on camera of any physical interaction between the parties)..
It does end with them walking away unaccosted.

amazing. I actually read the original and was quite shocked. How did a major newspaper get it so wrong?
Presumably, someone lied to them about what happened.
From Facebook thread with the video:
Marc Tyron I tried telling that to the reporter who broke the story and he said to me "why would Robyn lie?"

"It would be reassuring if the Council of Trade Unions would confirm now that it will not Hobbit the Rugby World Cup.
Now that's a milestone ladies and gentlemen: 'Hobbit' is now a verb!
Call the Dictionary of New Zealand English, folks ...
Hobbit, v: to bring futile and destructive industrial action at the last minute.

So, watching that video, then, this:
The Outrageous Fortune star had to be escorted by police away from an inner city Wellington restaurant after being threatened by technical workers
Robyn Malcolm had to be escorted by police away from an inner city Wellington restaurant last night after being threatened by technical workers worried the Hobbit won't be made in New Zealand.
Things got ugly as the Outrageous Fortune star left the Matterhorn restaurant after having a meal with CTU boss Helen Kelly.
She was met with a barrage of abuse from people gathered outside the restaurant.
The police stepped in and escorted her away.
Would be false then? Who gave the media this story? And will they now admit it is not actually, you know, true?
Helen? I believe you frequent these parts ...

See, rogerd, that's really OTT stuff right there. "Throwing rocks"? "Thrown under the bus..."?
Glad to see you don't have a problem with "moronic shambles of a campaign" though! ;-)

And another thing, I love the LOTR trilogy, and it saddens me that those people who made those brilliant backdrop were paid less than the minimum wage
This whole 'paid minimum wage' thing has come about by the, at best, mischievous spin put about by Equity at the beginning of all this, when they said that the contracts for actors on The Hobbit had "no set minimum" ... implying that they could be paid below minimum wage ... where, in fact, they would, of course, be paid far in excess of that.

Then there's this ...
