  • Hard News: Herself's Turn,

There's obvious mileage for Labour in getting positive notices from the EMA for funding more industry training, and for Key appeal to concern about youth crime, but there was nothing of the above in either speech.

ITA - and the more I look at both speeches, the more I hear the clicking of focus-grouped, poll-tested warm fuzzies falling into place with mechanical precision. Kerry asked some damn good questions, and what a shame I've just listened to Checkpoint over the last twenty fours hours where they weren't asked - let alone answered - of either Key or Clark.

That disturbs me, because I don't think you and Fiona are the only people looking for some answers that aren't going to fit into a soundbite. (But it's good to see the really important questions are being covered: Like Clark's claim that National has a 'secret agenda', and Key replying 'bite me, bimbo.' I made that last bit up, but wish he had.)

But I think National (less so Act, for various reasons) is going to have to treat the centre-right's online cheerleaders with some caution this year.

To be honest, you're right -- but I'd also say if the political blogisphere wants to be taken seriously this election year, it better start acting like it deserves to be. I'd say that applies, to varying degrees, to all parties.

  • Hard News: Herself's Turn,

Thanks Craig. As you have correctly determined, that was my point.

Grrr... I may be a potty-mouth puritan, and there are numerous occasions on which I can be pinged as a partisan hypocrite. But not this: It was just inexcusably vile, especially when it was ostensibly posted on a dare. What the hell is this: primary school?

  • Hard News: Herself's Turn,

Juvenile and pathetic the image may have been, but those who have flailed around in such deep offence really need to get over themselves.

Oh, piss off. You know ...the person concerned might like to get his arse back in the country and try campaigning around sane people when this kind of crap is getting rubbed in your face. And don't be naive enough to think it won't.

Then again, I'd rather like to see a center-right government this time next year, but it's not going to happen without some sheer human decency and a lot of discipline.

And would it be within the realm of possibility you'd be a tad less sanguine if it was Heather Roy or Bronwyn Key getting that kind of treatment on a left-wing blog?

Sorry for going off, folks. But really...

  • Hard News: Herself's Turn,

On a lighter note, should I be too upset about ending my time at a place where the exit interview has been rescheduled - literally as I was on my way out the door to catch a bus -- because...

...the HR person is on leave (booked up before Christmas), and failed to either clear her diary or arrange someone else to cover. Gee, thanks for reminding me to raise the enormous amount of wasted time and effort cause by poor (or non-existent) communication.

That's all. Thanks for letting me vent. Carry on...

  • Hard News: Herself's Turn,

I need to, so where's the link?

    is this it?

No - but that's still pretty gross (but was published on the front page of the ComPost). Can you trust this potty-mouth vulgarian Sodomite, when I say it grossed me out (which takes some doing) and Russell isn't giving the linky love, or even an old school name-and-shaming, for good reason.

Craig, for what it's worth, though I'm clear you've got different politics to me, I've never associated you with that particularly odious crowd and I can completely understand your desire to restate your independence.

Well, the text offended me as much as the picture (more so, in a way). Any way, in the finest tradition of teh blogz I got ever so slightly irritated (some mild-ish language including the P-word, so probably marginal for work viewing).

And finally, a local blog posted an obscene photoshopped image...

OK, that's enough - I got send a link to the damn thing, and am just ashamed to (presumably) share a species with the utter, utter fuck-tard who posted it. Tempted to name and shame, except 1) I rather doubt the person responsible is capable of shame, and 2) it would probably lead to traffic which I don't want to (even indirectly) reward 'the offender with.

Just though PA readers needed to hear someone on the right say that.

On that cheerful note - wish me luck. I've got an end-of-contract 'exit interview' to get ready for -- which is where they pat you down to make sure you haven't sacked the stationery cupboard or triggered a lawsuit.

Can't see why she should. Creative people are still a voting demographic.

And creative people still wake up the morning, shit, shave and shower and try to make a living like everyone else. There might also be one or two folks out there whose work still matters, despite not fitting neatly into some MiniYartz 'creative industry'/'national identity' discussion paper.

  • Hard News: Tidbits ahoy,

No speculation on how to fix the social development the 50 year old murderer and the people who think a clean fence is worth more than a life?

Ali: If you can legislate against, or find a genetic marker for, callous stupidity I'll be very, very impressed. :)
