But what Chch had was Tony Peake, who was running the UBS record store and using their academic exception
Peake's academic exception didn't do much for my studies! Changed my life though.

If 1989 would do, just the song for a wedding: Texas 'I Don't Want a Lover'.

We seemed to have a copy of the first Cure record when they played in Christchurch in 1979 or 1980. And Joy Division wasn't too hard to find. Tape recorders were a wonderful thing: you could put a record on, sit a tape recorder on record jammed against to a speaker, and magically get a (slightly blurry) copy.

Notes & Queries: The Rejected Selfie, in reply to
I’ve drawn a lot of family. I truly regret that I’ve not drawn more friends. But it seems such an intrusion
That is how I feel about photography: unless the subject understands in a deppr way what is being shown, I am reluctant to even take the pictures, let alone publish them. It seems intrusive to me.

Maori didnt have mirrors(in the understanding of such things now) – but we- sure as shit- had reflection devices.
Y'know I had never thought of that before. Obvious innit. Mirrors aren't hugely important to me except when I have to civilise myself, so I always find my reflection a bit surprising. Self-portraits I never think of doing. I know what I look like -- it's just not the same as my camera or mirror says.

Legal Beagle: Council Elections: STV Q&A, in reply to
I understand (polsci major back when Nigel Roberts was a lecturer) the system. I understand the advantages and disadvantages. But two ticks are easy; and easy is appealing in a busy world. I think poll turnouts would go through the floor if the voting process is captured by theorists, to the detriment of our democratic system.

The huge problem with STV is that it is complicated compared with FPP. At least the present MMP system, flawed as it is, is understood by most voters. To me anything that could deter voters from doing the deed is to be avoided given the abysmally low turn-outs in the llast 15 years in local body and national elections.
